The party approaches the light. As you get closer, you can make out what's creating it. A large creature sits in an obsidian chariot, with two large skeletal horses pulling it. The creature is about a foot taller than a human, and is covered in rough, scaly skin. It's black with red scales scattered throughout. From the chariot, it chases down something, casting various spells at it, and occasionally striking into the darkness with a serrated spear. In the seat with it are two more creatures you don't recognize, flanking the scaly one. They're considerably smaller, about the size of dwarves, and are very gaunt and frail looking. They seem to be terrified, though you're not sure if it's of the beast or something else. The scaly one stabs into the darkness once more, and as he pulls it back, you see a human head, still dripping with blood.

Might as well chalk it up to Pathos.
As this point we might as well invoke interpretive dance and call it a day.

I walk up to them, and talk like I would an old friend and ally...
Hello there, my friends. You wouldn't happen to know where the chief of the the bandits is? He has a date with my axe.
