FBs and Clowns dont carry weapons or wear armor, so the bug wont really work on them the way you expect.

Now-- Amusing idea: animal creature that has picked up a weapon-- can THAT be "enlightened"?

Say, an antman, or Asax-like?

Why not a kea?

Keas don't have CAN_LEARN. Their skills don't increase.

Someone should mod that in for them. We need Masterswordsmen keas who only fight using the swords stolen from their enemies.

keas should learn, since they are intelligent birds, and we really need master swordskeas

This can be easily used right at the start of an embark for an early military.

I started 5 dwarfs off with one point in axe and made a pit as soon as we embarked.

I now have 2  x legendary miner fighters and 5 x legendary axe fighters as the expense of one broken false rib and several bruises/vomit piles.

There is an easy way to get dwarfs into the pit. Simply build a 1x1 bridge surrounded by stone and put a door just before it.
Now enable engraving on the three dwarfs you want in the pit and have them smooth/engrave the three squares furthest from the door.

Once they are in the room lock the door and throw the lever.

Things I discovered:
- Seems to only work on one dwarf at a time (Not 100% sure on this as my dwarfs kept dropping items when they fell down)
- Does not work if there is an item on the square.
- Only works if the spears score a hit on a dwarf.

This is much more potent than a danger room but does allow for more role playing embarks without the need for dfhack. I am going to use this as basically a RNG for combat veterans. Random injuries + high combat skills. I will use them to train my new soldiers without the need for the military training tweak (hopefully).

wouldn't the fact that keas fly make dropping them on a spear problematic in the first place?

You could either bludgeon them till they passed out with dwarves with wood weapons, or, simpelre route, just use cavein dust.

Ehh. If you really want something as cheaty as this...

On a separate note, I was reminded that a dwarf husk would retain CAN_LEARN and it's equipment. Drop a dwarf-husk on a spear (or huskify a speared dwarf). Voila: Urist McHusk, Destroyer of Worlds.

DF is not yet ready for such a thing.

(But, perhaps in the next few releases, it will be. Toady's been doing some lovely things with worldgen history.)

It's a dwarf.  Their natural habitat is "trapped on the wrong side of a wall".

Flinging children halfway across the map to land in magma is good, wholesome fun, but extramarital reproduction?  Why, that's just unseemly!

I'm more reminded of the "special surprise" thread.

(Where the dynamics of falling and lethality were experimentally tested.)

Has anyone checked to see if the absolute Z-Level you land on makes any difference?  If you build your shaft 50 Z levels down from another one, does it make any difference?

50z levels would create too much enlightenment in too sort timespan and the enlightend would explode.

From what I can see it is simply the interaction of falling dwarf - hitting spears (at a two z level drop)

You gain for every spear hit, all other variables are irrelevant, although more clothing/armour does make you less likely to die. I suggest helmets.

More spears = more chances you won't dodge one of them... really only one spear is needed if you don't mind multiple attempts.... I find 10 spears inflicts too many wounds on the test subjects.

I almost passed this topic by, but now I am enlightened.
When the army has suffered heavy losses, and the enemies have breached the gates, the survivors will agree to be baptized and renew the fight.
