(aw I'm to late to point out that determining where we land would have been easy, just time it to launch when you are the exact opposite of where you want to land land, because rocket science. This assumes the station is in a circularized equatorial orbit, and the escape pod gets just enough delta-v to get into the atmosphere, but it probably is and does.)
