Send the redshirt kid ahead to distract them, then walk around. Get spotted by kobold zombie, who has sneaking skills and knows how to spot people. Take him with you to replace that kid. He is much cuter and more useful.

I would vote against endangering any civilians.

+1 Say a prayer for him to both Cowsea and Urist. Something along the lines of allowing him rebirth with a bit more sense, and that if he is reborn within your lifetime you would like Cowsea to send him your way so you can make some fine cheese for him.
Huh. Woulda thought Rimtar would have had more sense than that.
So, guess we learned from now on to always point out our alternatives and to talk people out of fights they can't or likely won't win. Preemptively.

Watch ES kill off all our party members before we get there.
Only to find everyone in the fortress dead.

We could steal the child and leave the rest of the party to its own devices. That'd ensure one other survivor.

A bunch of zombies just tossed a head in our direction. Should we really take the time to pray?

Yes. They could be religious zombies, and think, "Oh, they're religious people. That means we shouldn't attack them, as they are just innocent dwarven travelers." Not that dwarves are innocent, but you get the picture.

It's OK if we don't say the prayer over his dead body; his ghost will come find us later if he doesn't hear our prayers the first time.  Right now, I suspect it's better to run, then sneak around them if they don't come after us as well.  We can mourn the fallen once we're safe.

Don't worry since this is meph works we could always Dwarf resurrect Wilbur over there or turn him into a golem.
but since this is meph works that necromancer might be a warlock and they tend to have more spells than just reanimation for starters.

Any one in the party could turn into a werebeast, horribly transform into the undead in a instant, die from ebola, go insane and start killing each other, blow up, blow up and cause anyone near them to blow up, scuttle.

or worst horribly be captured then enslaved.
