PTW
Also:
Reg: Put your visor down (not that that does anything, but just to be safe). If you get a good shot, stab the creature in the foot (to slow it down and therefore make its attacks less accurate), and then watch for the chance to sever its neck. Failing that, stab it in the head if you get an opening. Both are almost guaranteed one-shot kills.
Let's give Reg a title, shall we? Should make things amusing when she's lording that over Holt.
+1 to this. Bonus points if it's a particularly silly title, like "The Idiocies of Socks".

Meanwhile...

"Almost...aaaalmost..."

"Got it!  Looks like I win, young Misty.  I finished your Dwarven puzzle box long before you've finished my Elven apple!  I win the wager, and your delightful little toy along with it.  It'll make a nice addition to our caravan.  You should know better than to challenge an elf to a game of puzzles, young dwarf! We elves are notorious for our keen ability to solve puzzles and traps!"

You giggle for some reason.  You can't really help it; you've found yourself laughing at nearly everything he says.  As for the puzzle box, you're alright with letting that go.  An apple for an old low-quality puzzle box is a fair trade by itself, and you haven't had anything to eat since before you left the mountainhomes.

And by the Gods, do elves know how to grow apples!  A crisp Elven apple is better than stale cat biscuits on any day of the week.  How they manage to make them grow during the winter is beyond you, but you're not about to complain.

Elf:  Make a cheesy pickup-line referencing cheese to Misty.

Misty:  When elf says a pickup-line referencing cheese, silently vow your undying love in your head, then say something awkward instead.

Elf:  Laugh it off, make a small joke, and glance embarassedly towards Misty.

[Blah blah blah] the winter

Ah ha!  I was wondering about that snowy view.  So it's winter, and apparently we're changing biomes on our way into ShieldDawn, leaving one which has no lingering snowfall.  Good thing we love mittens so much.

Also, I note that all the trees visible on ShieldDawn's embark site have been cut down.  SOMEbody's going to make an offer to the elves that offends them.  Yup.

. . .

Hey.  How well do elves do with cold weather?  We've got one spare pair of mittens in our backpackShow foresight as well as compassion and trade your spare mittens to your newfound elf friend for, I dunno, whatever they got on 'em.  The rest of their trading excursion is gonna go poorly, so it falls on you alone to make a good impression.

In other words, I'm hoping at least to get through a mitten trade before we fall flat on our face.

A young dwarf stands in her room.  Today is the 1st of Granite, her birthday!

Granite=January on the dwarven calendar.  I dunno why toady felt the need to make dates so needlessly complicated, but he did, so it is.

On a side note. . . If FANS=>200 and CHAR=<30 and we each annoy you we can kill everyone in the story and more?

1st Granite - first day of spring. Depending on how you cut it, that's either the first or 23rd of March. Not an unusual time for snow, of course, when you can get pictures like this. (Storks arrive in late March/early April, the picture is apparently from early April 2013.)

And the Misty/Bowelf interaction is adorable.

A dwarf having a good time playing games with an elf? Something's rotten in the state of Denmark

Elf:  Make a cheesy pickup-line referencing cheese to Misty.
