In the later updates of the original mod that Masterwork got its Plump Helmet Men from, they have the ability to turn dwarves into 'spore thralls' by sneaking up on them while they sleep (like vampires) and planting spores in their brains (they will only do this if they are planning a rebellion).  Spore thralls are indistinguishable from regular dwarves except that they have no emotions and do not die from blood loss.  However, if the Plump Helmet Men decide to revolt, all the spore thralls will join the rebellion.  Also, spore thralls can make other spore thralls.

Masterwork doesn't include this feature, but it does include rebellious PHM killing dwarves in their sleep by draining their blood (using their mycellium I guess).  I guess TLCM can include either...

The spore mind control thing is actually something that occurs in nature.  There is a specific fungus that can control the mind of ants:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ophiocordyceps_unilateralis

I believe it is not the only instance of such an effect in nature.  There are also more subtle ones, like toxoplasmosis, which causes rats to loose their fear of the smell of cat urine and instead be attracted to it.  (it may also have an impact on human behavior...)

All that being said, I much prefer giant plumpy with the megapunch ;)

Interesting. So if one makes sure to take care of one's Plump Helmet men, and keeps them near the residence halls, one could create a mindless population which does not die from bleeding? Sounds like a lovely setup to me. Eventually, then, the PHMs would rule the entire fort.

I think Plumpy has a plan, perhaps...

Suggestion for Reg and Holt: After you managed to get out of that tunnel, take a moment to praise the sun. Then vomit from cave adaption.

I was going to start a veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery minor "complaint"-like-thing-that-is-in-no-way-meant-to-push-you-or-offend-you-or-say-fuck-you-exams-or-otherwise-as-a-real-complaint-thing asking when the next TLCM page is out as it's been a little long. Of course, nothing goes above exams right now.

But then I saw this post. Hit it, saint. Rejoice :D

Good luck on exams!

Heh, exams. Gotta hate exams. No, really, I think even the teachers hate exams. Or, at least, hate to grade exams.
