We're Off To Kill Something!?[Meta]
« on: February 15, 2014, 04:59:10 pm »

We're Off To Kill The Dragon! was a lot of fun to GM. I want to make another game in the same vein. I'm just not sure what the setting or ultimate target should be.  I've though about a sci-fi setting or 1920s New England(Lovecraftian). I'm open to suggestions. This will also be the thread for discussing the rules and mechanics of the game.

The King should  be the target, for a change of pace. That, or a walking tower or something in that vein.

Lovecraftian sci-fi? Fighting cosmic horrors with railguns and whatnot.

Lovecraftian sci-fi? Fighting cosmic horrors with railguns and whatnot.

I like this idea. I mostly like it because there are multiple ways to interpret it. For example: Fighting cosmic horrors with rail guns would be sci-fi set in the Cthulhu Mythos, but Lovecraftian sci-fi could also mean a sci-fi game with Lovecraftian themes(humanity is insignificant, sanity is fleeting, humans weren't mean't to know some things, etc.).

Forum games generally need to be a bit more light-hearted than that, though. I'm seriously considering putting in some sanity mechanics if I go a Lovecraftian route.

Have you thought of We're off to Kill the Marker?

In this setting, the player is a dragon and must defeat, among others, a hobbit, and Lancelot.

Well, that's a death sentence. Unless we get excalibur.

I like this line of thought. Perhaps we are knights of a New Order in 1920's England, and have to fight abominations with futuristic weaponry? (Rail guns, electric rifles, power swords/weapons, etc)

I would definitely play that, if it had the right mechanics and such. But you can't make it light hearted. It is Lovecraftian, after all.

That seems like an honest challenge, actually. Why not? Levity is what Lovecraftian works need the most, in my opinion. Otherwise they're a bit one-note, really.

We're Off To Kill The Kingpin?

You have to take down a drug lord. Have it be an incredibly silly parody of "righteous revenge rampage" crime films that lampshades and exploits ALL THE TROPES.
