Background: The Chaos of the times has produced many sorts of people, as it has throughout history-madman, heroes, terrorists, innovators, conmen, and poets plenty. Coleen Devries is none of these things-just a young woman raised in the American heartland with dreams of flying, like her father before her. Like him, she heartily embraced the culture of the American air force-even as the country itself could hardly begin to pay the upkeep on their vast, high tech and ultimately unused fleet of high tech destruction and eavesdropping-a force that would, perhaps, one day turn against the people it once protected.
But, those are large pictures-the smaller one is Staff Sgt Coleen Devries, and the culmination of her chosen career, and lifes love-chosen to be one of the last people to actually leave Earth-even in these times, a space program was in the process-though they work with critically low funds, almost hiding from any publicity that could lead to a 'restructuring' of their budget. Time and pressure can make wonderful things, given time, however. Many could not help but imagine Earth as a leaky ship, destined to founder in the coming storms-and as always, those many with the resources to do so wanted to be the first on the lifeboats. This is what they made- an experimental ship, and experimental engine-the sort that could take one to Mars and back in a months time. 35 million miles, further than any Human being has ever gone. Going not only space, but time as well-through layers of reality humanity had not even dared to measure. And, she would be the first...
Coleen had just broken orbit, when the world winked out like a candleflame in a strong wind. Her last words-destined to be either historic, or utterly forgotten by the generations to come-were to ask if her father was watching her, and how she was finally soaring-like a leaf on the wind.

Appearance: A tall, slim woman-Caucasian, well built with an athletic stride. An even, natural tan. Deep blue eyes and light, chestnut brown hair. A scattering of freckles across the bridge of her nose-high nordic cheekbones. Her stance indicates competing degrees of animal canniness and unbridled arrogance. Currently wearing a USAF flight suit, with a few custom patches-NASA, USAF, etc-though it seems to be missing the visored helmet.
