This month seems doubtful, but possible I suppose.  The good news is that the eternal claims of "a couple of months" must necessarily be coming closer to being accurate.

I'm reasonably hopeful of a May release, but already there's a little evidence of how the few remaining bullet points on his todo list can take longer than expected.  I would have expected the plants stuff to take a day or so at most, but that seems to have been very optimistic.  Who knows how long something like giving a nod to vampire rulers might take?

Or the bug fix cycle.  Thankfully he's almost certainly fixed most of the big stuff as he's gone along, such as dwarves crawling everywhere in fort mode.

Still, the way you put it made me think that Toady said it this year, which would make no bloody sense unless you're, again, a wizard or other time-traveling entity.

Also I'm willing to bet that the list will be finalized in two weeks at worst and 1 week at best, but I'm just really optimistic about DF2014 now. It's hard not to be, though.

I'm going to stand by my original prediction (even though it is in a word, "Wrong"). So I've decided that if I join up the DCSS tournament, apply for some jobs, and ask a few good looking women out, fate will conspire to have DF be released at the very moment that I have limited time or ability to play it. Or I'll have to make some difficult decisions concerning commitments and time management.

Is it wrong that the new release will probably win out against all of the above?

I am actually a wizard, but in this case it wasn't time travel.
