I also noticed that teachers even in college tried to say active voice was totally better than passive voice, but I felt like it was some kind of cultural indoctrination. In writing, the choice between passive and active voice is a tool to set a mood and control ambiguity. Like anything else it can be overused.
I think that's an American thing, because I've never been taught that one is better than the other.
Though I have been told that second person is the worst thing so there's that.

I put together a PDF today of a novel series I wrote. As no one has downloaded it yet, I feel nothing has yet been accomplished. Still, at least I have not yet lost ground. Yet.

I follow this, though I've fallen behind. I find it easier to just read it in-thread.

Heh, nice idea for a thread.
This show of emotion left me quite apathetic.

I'm reading a new book series now, called "Temeraire", by Naomi Novik. Pretty much the Napoleonic Wars, but with dragons.

Some people believe if you add dragons to anything it makes it better. Others believe adding sex helps. The center of that Venn diagram is awful fanfic where Napoleon is getting rogered by his firebreathing lieutenant.

It ... almost changed my mood. For a moment. But then I read the spoiler and it wobbled back.

This explains the existence of dragon dildos.

I might find this disturbing, but I'm not entirely sure I actually care, as it has no effect on me.

I must agree; the phrase "dragon dildo(s)" seems just a little too provocative for this manner of thread. For now, I'll have to ask that posters either refrain from the usage of such language, or come up with a slightly milder substitute to be used in its stead. Perhaps, "synthetic mythical reptile phalli"...

I calmly disagree, and instead posit that the phrase "dragon dildo" has no particularly emotional attachments in language, only on a case-by-case basis with the person reading.
