No prank?
« on: April 01, 2014, 12:57:23 pm »

To be honest, I'm rather disappointed that Toady didn't try to prank us with an April fool's release that crashes on embark.

Thoughts?

That's the prank - that there is none.

Alas, it would appear the only fools this April are ourselves.

My thoughts are that there'd be way too much bitching coming from something like that for Toady to feel it worth while.

So far as I know, the only April Fool's joke he's ever made was releasing an actual major release on April Fool's, at 3 in the morning or something. The site broke within minutes.

The site is going to crash for this release too isn't it?

What if the prank is that he's released a new version without saying?
Those of us who use the forum already have it downloaded, and newbies don't notice a change because it's their first time playing.

No.

The prank is that as you discuss how there is no prank, Toady deletes the files from the internet.

Or worse - that he breaks the internet by typing Google into Google.

Or by creating a functioning computer in Dwarf Fortress using a complex system of pressure plates and levers, a functioning internet using a complex system of magma, and types Urist into the functioning Urist Search Engine, created by using a complex system of old fashioned dwarven stupidity ingenuity

I thought all that did was cause all your dwarves' programming to reset, whereupon they default to Directive 1: Attend Party.

Yes, it turns them all into nobles.
