Give her 4cp!
Our minds will never be able to comprehend Mel and her mysterious ways. Just let her have it.

What do you want the money for?
So that you don't waste it all on cupcakes and totally useless junk that seems useful at first.
That's it? I'm much more responsible than to waste money on baked goods.
Oh yeah? Remember that bake sale?
...How much do you want?
I'll take two or three copper. If it makes you feel better, I'll upgrade my own equipment if I have enough money to buy stuff.
((I'll let Lyeos re-evaluate his statement before giving Mel 4cp.))
What should you do? You still have 2 hours before shops close, and 3 before nightfall. The taverns and inns will remain open late into the night.

Nah, upgrades are kinda sometimes often somewhat expensive. Give her the four, then check to see about upgrading your sword or getting some kinda gauntlets. Then head to the inn. Chances are 3cp isn't gonna buy much.

Shhh! Sh! Shhhhhh! Shh! Mages have to be squishy! But yeah, we do. Huh. I wonder if Mel would let us have hers if she got new armor? Although, then again, that might not exactly fit on Jon....

Crap! Sell the amethyst! I say we keep the paper and whatnot because it could be useful later.

Where would you like to try and sell the amethyst? You can see a couple shops here, but there are probably more in the Silver District. The shops you see are a general store and a woodcarver's shop.

Look for gem and magic related shops, find out what stores will sell for more.

Deciding to look for a good place to sell the amethyst, you and Mel head over to the Silver District - Home of the city's merchants and guilds. Immediately, you spot five stores. A blacksmith, a tanner, a trinket shop, a fletchery, and an enchanter's workshop. Among those, there is a building with a sign showing a sparkling green rectangle that you can't identify. You also see a congregation of wagons and men. They seem to be moving various supplies about.

Going into the building with the strange sign reveals a velvet interior. The chairs and tables are all made with expensive cloth and are studded with gems of varying color. A young woman is sitting at a desk, one that appears to be worth more than you are. You take a spot in front of her and inquire about the building.

Uh, excuse me. What is this building?
Ah, you must be new to the region. This is the Jeweler's Guild Office for the Silver District. Many gem cutters, gem setters, and some Magemma claim relation to us. Is there anything I can help you with?

Ask, hypothetically, how much a rough amethyst would be worth, unless size matters, in which case show it to her and ask.

((Good job, by the way.))

((Good job for what? Volume of updates? Quality of writing? Using Google translate to make up a word? Being nice and not letting this be the Poisoner's Guild?))

That's cool, I'd like to know how much an uncut amethyst would be worth.
Well, those used to be worth a good amount, but the opening of the amethyst mine over in Ellond has decreased the overall value of the gemstone. However, a large enough piece of it can still be worth a good amount. It all depends on the size and amount, really.
Oh, okay. You see, me and my friend found a piece of it and we wanted to know how much it would sell for.
Here it is!
Mel places the stone on the table.
Hmm.. Okay, I think that's worth something. Let me weigh it.
The woman gets a scale off a nearby shelf and weighs the jewel.
Alright, your amethyst weighs about ten ounces. It should be worth about twenty copper if you find the right buyer. Anything else?
