I haven't seen it but a key to go back after the screen recenters 'on event' would be the grand old style.

Maybe setting a hotkey location at the current spot whenever the player hits "zoom to" or "follow" something.  So long as the key was something accessible (shift-F1?), I think that would be very useful.
