Few questions for a mod

I'm making a mod with weird elemental beasts, and want to add a special way of acquiring them. I'm adding a new workshop called a summoning stand, which turns special gems into elemental eggs. I have two problems here.
1. This is more of a request; but can someone decode the workshop raws? I can't tell what's up with them.
2. I know you can turn things into eggs. I also don't know how. If possible, I'd also like to add some modifier that makes it hatch into a certain caste (assuming that's chosen when you get the eggs).

Eggs won't hatch outside of a nest box, so that won't work. My suggestion would be to have a "blank elemental" creature that's small and mostly useless, but can be embarked with and bred. The summoning reaction would use (but not consume) one of these creatures and create a gas that only affects blank elementals, transforming them into the elemental of your choice.

Alright. I put together a workshop that may or may not work and some snakeipedes as a 'base'. I have no clue how to make this gas.
Then again, I could just cut out the 'summoning' part entirely. You can find them in the wild, they're just rare and dangerous.

To make the gas, make a new inorganic material that boils below room temperature, and has an attached contact transformation syndrome that only affects [CREATURECLASS:(whatever you like)] creatures, then add that creature class to the 'base' creature.

1. How do I use creatures as reagents without killing them?
2. How do I get ahold of this material without it disintegrating?
3. How do I add a transformation syndrome to a material?
4. How do I make said transformation syndrome?
