Vulnerary (3/3) Bio: In many ways, Daethwin has managed to become the quintessential traveling minstrel; charming, musical, and perpetually out of money...not to mention the uncanny way he seems to get out of trouble any time he gets into it. True to his calling, he was born in Raia, orphaned at an early enough age that he only has the vaguest memories of his parents, and grew up in a thieve's den. The boy discovered his musical talent at an early age, letting the other thieves empty the pockets of their marks while he kept them allured by his songs. The leader of the gang was fond of him, even, and only beat him a few times for mouthing off.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and this is all the more true in a place such as Raia. The gang fell apart after their leader was killed in an alley by some drunken pirates. Daethwin was eventually rounded up and put in a whorehouse, quickly becoming one of their top money-makers. But all good things must come to an end, and for the owners of the brothel, Daethwin was certainly a good thing. The young lad had managed to win the sympathies of one of the more regular customers, who helped Daethwin escape one night, after several years had gone by(the owners tried to keep their coin in good shape, so he wasn't too badly damaged...at least physically) since his kidnapping.
The man turned out to be a bard himself, on Raia to escape the noose for his rather unsavory taste in bed partners. Jakren(for that was the man's name) knew the boy's talent and the two of them developed a close, if disturbing, relationship, aking to a father and son. Jakren taught Daethwin the ways of song and spirit, how to recognize a bad situation and take advantage of a good one, building on the skills the lad had developed in his thief-bound years.
Some years later, once Daethwin was long past the age that Jakren preferred, the man helped him take passage on a ship, headed for the mainland, confident in the newly-dubbed-minstrel's self-sufficiency. Daethwin has wandered as a performer and a minstrel ever since, singing and more often than not, laying his way through the world, one inn at a time. He's been in Veros for the last few months, and as for who he might run into on the way...well, one adventure's as good as another, right?
