From what I've heard, building destroyers must be 2 tiles away from the thing they're trying to destroy:

╬╬╬
+D+
+╬+
++

The green spots are all safe places to let them stand (they'll get stuck there.) Red spots must be blocked for safety. I think they can destroy from yellow spots (if door not forbidden?), but I don't think pathing has them stop there in this instance.
Therefore, a door placed in a U-bend should be the perfect defense against building destroyers.

Maybe my understanding is completely wrong.

as far as dealing with the beasts go I think one thing I won't be doing is sending in my 5 sword master dwarfs.
I don't really want to risk my 5 sword master dwarfs who can fight off a army of 67 goblins without taking any dmg at all.

those 5 sword master dwarfs are all of my fighting forces.

I would recommend trying to kill them somehow though. If their constant attacking attempts are anything like their pathfinding, it could be a significant drain on your FPS, especially if more start to pile up down there. If they really are so focused on that door that they are ignoring other entrances, they might also ignore you as you brazenly engineer their death.

I think this might be one of the largest collections of FBs killed in one swoop.

The 6 forgotten beasts were killed by my cave in.

Edit: now I'm going to get ready so I can repeat it again later when more beasts show up at the door.

As far as I know, building destroyers ignore Forbidden doors as if they are not even there.  I've seen this in Trolls just recently, haven't had a FB try and break in lately though.

Looks like I got a reloadable cave in cannon aimed at the point FBs stop near that door. I'm now about to crush two more FBs, and after they are dead I plan to ready it to go again when more beasts appear.
