wonder why didn't I drawn this sooner oh well.

what makes you think Sibrek isn't sending you off to die in vain hopes your corpse does the task several other miners have failed. Even worst if you get infected you could very well be stuck here forever wearing the clothes on your back lock into a room. look, you have a bright future ahead of you while I lived my life and gain a swanky hat out of the deal what if you give me the task and you run along to a safe distance. if you worry about me not completing it you can tag along. if the kid doesn't want this let her walk to her death if she does want to live we can either do the job or not do the job but we gain the pick which would be worthy for mining out section of this place.

I've tried to lower the contrast between the noise and the rest of the background, I hope this stops it from drawing attention away from the characters. If it doesn't, let me know.

"That's rubbish. Is this supposed to betittle me, or are you really this stupid?"
"Why else would she send you?"
"There weren't any miners available."
"So she decides to give away a great deal of wealth to get you to do it, instead of asking someone who can actually lift a pick?"
"You haven't seen any of these 'unavailable' miners around, have you? What about adults?"

"I've seen Urist."
"You and I both know he's irreplaceable."

"..You're just saying this because want to do your own stupid plan!"
"And that means I'm wrong? Maybe I'm just too stupid to act on my own advice."

Ah. You're going to make me dig, aren't you?

You see anyone else around?
"Silky! I bet you can mine!"
"Nooo.. I'm not yours! I'm my own ..hat. My own hat. I belong to nobody."
I don't even remember where to mine! And there's like two bedrooms and a couple of workshops in the way. Did I mention doors? It's not like I can just remove those. Really, we should call this whole thing off.

The red in the white on the left is a magma in a tube. The dark red squares are the butcher's workshops.

Maybe making a map was me going a little overboard with things.

Dig up stair in the wall. Keep digging up. Or, alternatively, dig down through a cavern pillar until the walls turn blue, then keep digging down.

Do you want to dig up to cavern water, or the lake?

Ah, yes, beautiful, yes.

>Feel bad about crushing that little girl's dreams.  PROMISE to make it up to her in a meaningful way later.  For now, I suggest plotting out how you're going to route some of the lake water through whatever trouble is plaguing the butchershops (i.e. a map showing your planned mining path).  Whatever the problem is, no doubt it can be cleansed by washing it into the caverns.

There is also a water source connected to the first cavern level, next to the up-stairs(the blue stuff on the right). Looks like I forgot to put that in the description.

Edit:
It'll take you *roll* 17 extra squares to reach the lake through cave pillars, adding to the 23 that it'll take to dig up to that point (3 of which are soil based). However, the inflow will stop once the lake freezes over. *roll* You could lower that number by *roll* 8 if you somehow started digging in the unused stockpile walls.

Can we shorten the path by cutting through some already-dug unimportant rooms (like the dining hall, dormitories, hospital, barracks, etc) in addition to using the stockpiles?

The fort shifted leftwards because of a flooding, so there's not a lot of open space above the butchery. There's two openings: The library and a small bedroom complex. They're both 1 tile in height, so they won't reduce your vertical workload. The library is unusable as a shortcut, but you can dig through one of the tiny bedrooms and cut one tile off the total. If you could manage to seal these bedroom halways off, you'd be able to dig up right below a pillar and take nine squares off the total.

Edit:
Of course, that does have the consequence of making a bunch of dwarves' bedrooms inaccessible.

Edit2:
If you intent to use the stockpile as a shortcut, you'll still need to connect it with the butchery somehow.

If there's no means of connecting the two rooms nor alternatives posted, I guess I'll default to digging up to the lake from the butchery tonight.

Edit:
Ate something bad. Update prosponed.

Well, that certainly didn't work.

I suggest exploring the butcher shop, seeing what the problem was in the first place.

Oh crap. No, you've flooded the workshops alright. It's just that I aparantly forgot the image that indicated that the water reached it.
