Love the trade mechanics explanation, as well as the provision that kinder administrators might run less profitable trades if the planet is in dire need of food.

Thanks! It's what separates this game from even a game like CK- stats and traits affect the decisions your leaders will make, and they aren't always in your control. It's true management, not fiddling with build queues and dials.

Kinda weird to point it out like that. 
I suspect no food = less and/or unhappy/unproductive workers.

Would a planet or whatever ever be able to drop down into some sort of equilibrium if they produce some materials on their own? 
Or does it all go into the mass grave and won't be able to ever recover by itself?

Hopefully I understand your question. So food is separate from this cycle. It is produce by farms and they are the last thing to 'shut down' (the order is labs, academies, starship factories, government buildings, factories, mines, power stations, and farms) so the people's basic needs are last. You are right - no food will lead to riots and eventually migration, as will no power (to a lesser extent). This doesn't happen immediately though and you should have plenty of time to fix things prior to that point.

Re: the mention of beta testers a page back, I was a beta tester once, I would still like to test but my time is now much more limited than it used to (I got a job)

Thanks for the update! One suggestion, but I think the save system or any sort of save NEEDS to be present before any sort of release for a 4X game. They are simply too long and complex to play in one sitting, so waiting three releases is going to put a serious dent in your betatester community.

Yeah, no doubt. There's a chance it will be in .7, but with the type of game AotSS is and using Unity, you kind of have to 'roll your own' save and load system due to GameObjects and how data is stored in that engine. You can serialize/deserialize data, but it's not as easy to do as it is in other engines. I don't want to overpromise on that end. You can't 'sort of' have a save load system - it either works, or not. :D

As a unity dev myself, Surrogates man ! It's quite annoying, espacially when basic objets are not serializable (such as Vector or Hashset), but surrogates allow you to implement your own save implementation easily. Well, you may already know that already anyway.

I'm quite interested in joining as a tester, i sent you a mail. Do you know when you will start to select testers ? And by the way, what the hell is the answers of the capcha verification for signing up on the forum ?

Exploration, Expansion, Exploitation, and Extermination.  Alternately, Explore, Expand, Exploit, and Exterminate, or various other grammatical permutations therein.  I couldn't say which particular forms the captcha desires.

Hmmm... I have already created the foundation of a save/load system that should work, but I'll have to research surrogates. As for the captcha, it's Explore, Exploit, Exterminate, and Expand. That said, I could probably make the answers more friendly. I'll change that tonight!

You may want to change the about page's bit about "free empire simulator" as it seems you're asking for money for this now. Kinda confusing for someone who hasn't looked at this much to figure out what you're going for. I haven't looked too hard though, so if I'm wrong please correct me.

the website and forums seem to be dead for a few days now, though the wordpress site appears to be still up.
I'm guessing you're rebuilding the site? if so, could you look at using https for the forum login?
having to use a non secure login always makes me grind me teeth :p. 

Edit: Oh, I was still trying to find it at imperia5x.com duh.
