Juries are complete shit. Been caught selling votes, they judge on the rehearsal and not on the show - and the fact that their unity and coherence with other judges allows them to focus on one act where the voters will spread their votes around allows them to completely stack votes on their favourite candidate and ensure they will win even with mediocre performance in the popular vote. There's simply no bloody fun to be had if before the singing has begun the bookies have already announced the favourite to win and everyone bloody knows it. Absolutely haram tbqh

Gotta say, i'm amused by the vast difference between jury and people when it came to Sweden (high jury, bottom-tier people) and Denmark (low jury, top 5 people). Just goes to show that the juries don't know what they fuck they're doing. :V
To be fair to Israel though, they'd have won even without the jury votes (even though i CRINGED about the "thank you for choosing different"), so I GUESS that's a well deserved victory.

I was so upset that Sweden was getting points and it felt so good when I realised it was only jury points and then the people's voice just totally crushed the guy. Loathed the entry, loathe the guy singing it, loathe his whole family, loathe that he got sent to Eurovision in itself.

Spain should have won though.

All in all I felt there was quite many calm ballady songs this year. I like those.

Nice bit of irl shitposting tbh

The costuming choice was a tad tasteless too, I'm all for cultural exchange, but wearing the cultural dress of others to wear around how commercially 'different' you are is a dick move on many levels

*REANIMATION RITUAL!!!!!*

lol.

Anyways, decided to dig up this thread along with posting on the Europol thread. Looks like Iceland is going all rebel this year.. Noticed it when I scrolled down some on BBC.

Looking at the official videos though:

Albania: Something about romance during war? after edoot: Still sounds romancey

Armenia: Gothic electro-rock? dunno. after edoot: the lyrics also sound gothic.

Australia: singing in a massive tower dress. How does she get down from that?

Austria: *shrug emoticon*

Azerbaijan: Psychidelica Aquatica

Belarus: Looks completely normal in the Eurovision scheme of things. And I didn't listen to the lyrics, both because most of them probably aren't in english anyway and captions/subtitles aren't provided. edoot: Derp, the lyrics are provided in english text.

Belgium: Supposed to be a melancholic song I guess, according to the artist.

Croatia: Singing in angel wings. Not the weirdest that's come out of Eurovision.

edoot2: Apparently many of them are originally in english, okay....

Cyprus: Um, has Eurovision been this R rated before? I'm sure it probably has as theres all kinds of weird stuff every year.

Czech Republic: City life I suppose.

Denmark: Got no silly comment for this one.

Estonia: Guitar solo, cool I guess.

Finland: Not gothic metal this year.

France: Definetly French.

Georgia (the country, that is): Sounds patriotic maybe. Also, theres some words that don't translate into english.

Greece: Lots of, um, meaning? The song is about love, which is a recurring theme.

Hungary: A returning artist, and pretty good song I think.

Germany: Okay cool. No silly comments or observations here.

Iceland: Mentioned earlier.

Ireland: The song is apparently yabbing about the number 22 :/

Israel: Pretty soulful

Italy: You know, for all of Italys moaning about immigrants (which isn't entirely unjustified due to just happening to be the closest point of land to the North African coast) and the current politics over there, it's ironic that the chosen singer has an Italian mother and an Egyptian father. The original lyrics are also a mix of Italian and Arabic.

Latvia: Another song about love.

Lithuania: Also about love.

Malta: Tropical! lol.

Moldova: Romance is a recurring theme.

North Macedonia: Formerly FYROM. That's all I've got.

Norway: Sky spirits, coolness.

Poland: Very folksy. Traditional Poland is traditional.

Portugal: Didn't really expect sillyness from Portugal, then again, Eurovision IS silly season.

Romania: One of the sillier entries this year.

Russia: The artist doesn't deserve the 'BOO! HISS!' I'd have given Russia.

San Marino: The artist is also a qualified dentist, weird things in the world.

Serbia: Another song about love.

Slovenia: Stuff about planes and winter.

Spain: Has hybrid musical character according to the description and bio.

Sweden: Seems like everybody wants to sing about love for this Eurovision. Maybe it's a subconscious hint in the European psyche?

Switzerland: Dirty dancin', dirty dancin'

The Netherlands: LUUUURRRVVVEEEE

UK: I almost wish it were a song about Brexit.

USA!: Heh, I wish, if just to see what we would pick to send over to Eurovision.

Is it that all Eurovision get so much into politics in the hosting nation or it's just here being here?

The Icelandic entry is the only one that I know of that is definetly pushing their act as political. While I saw a BBC news entry about a bunch of contestants asking to move the venue from Israel and that Ukraine dropped out due to internal politics, if any of the other acts are being political with their acts, they're being more subtle about it.

I don't actually follow Eurovision news, just saw that Icelandic one on the BBC and the other two articles I just mentioned were sidebarred in that article.

Of course though, the lyrics and videos show only a portion of the whole entry, so politics could show up in later parts of the act.

I was mainly just making silly comments and observations on viewing the videos.

It's coming bois

I'm gonna try stay up to 3:00AM and livestream the finals from China but boy is it gonna be difficult for technical and practical reasons. If I die, go on without me eurocomrades

All the Americans here have taken one look at the anti-capitalist techno-dystopian BDSM and concluded that the eurovision singing contest is a strange and wonderful thing, that isn't european, apolitical or a singing contest
