The Battle of Holybeast (v0.34.11)
« on: August 19, 2015, 12:38:04 pm »

Attackers:
Two dunadan swordsmen, one dunadan hammerman
Casualties: 1 wounded
Commander: Dik Nathobabuth

Defenders:
Two northman spearman, two northman axemen, two northman marksmen
Casualties: All dead
Commander: Kes Hermitrifts

Date:
23rd of Malachite, Year 44

Background:
Following the attack of a dunadan expedition force in the North by a group of Northman raiders, the dunadan village of Wanetribute organized a small military force for retaliation. Without waiting for permission from the capitol, Crewedrims, nor an official declaration of war, the dunadan raiding force marched northwards towards the nearby Northman hunting camp, Holybeast.

Battle:
The attackers crossed a stream just west of the camp, then advanced from the south upstream. They took the Northmen by surprise, but the Northmen were immediately hostile and the engagement began. The dunadan forces charged at the Northman commander, who was surrounded by two of his own men. The Northmen were torn down, but did manage to wound the dunadan hammerman. The Northman commander put up a good fight, but when all of his men were down he proved no match for three dunadan warriors. After this melee, the dunadans continued to the rest of the Northman force. They advanced on the two Northman marksmen, along with a Northman spearman, and won victory with a final killing blow by the dunadan commander onto the final remaining Northman spearman.

Effects:
This battle was more of a statement than a true tactical decision. The dunadans wanted to state that they would not be easily pushed around by the vicious tribes in the North, and this battle showed it with the dunadans coming out on top when outnumbered. The day following the raid, war was officially declared in Crewedrims, beginning the Second War in the North.
