Zero Rejects: Coincidence?
« on: November 17, 2007, 07:10:00 pm »

The seed 0 gives a world with 0 rejects. Interesting coincidence. Any more zero-reject seeds? Might as well make a thread full of them for the sake of convenience  :p

The only other one I've seen is 941486140, from another thread.

I don't know about any 0 seeds, but 8008135 clocks in at a mere four  :D

Seed # 1158090881   Gave me 1 reject.

I generated another world with one reject, but I didn't save the seed, I also deleted the other world.  So I'm not sure if that was the same seed.

Does everyone understand the difference now?

Nobody is going to find one that is more convenient than 0.
I think that was purposefully programmed in by Toady, it's too unlikely to be coincidence >_>

I've had quite a few zero reject worlds so it probably is just a coincidence.   I don't think he'd rewrite the entire world gen algorithms just so seed 0 = 0 rejections.

Nah, all it takes to make 0 a 0-reject seed is to find the first 0-reject world and add the number of that world to the number the user gives. It's easy and doesn't reduce the space of creatable maps. Not that I'm claiming that that's what Toady did, I'm just pointing out that you don't need to consider this at all in the actual map generation as long as there's at least one 0-reject seed.
