People using language to communicate in way Rellya not think appropriate make Reelya mad. So mad Reelya need to derail thread, and Reelya not talk about any other thing. Grrr.

Seriously though, this is dumb. Stop it. It doesn't even have anything to do with what the thread is really about.

Or maybe he is saying that these tactics people do to get patronage are pathetic and don't really fool anyone.

"It will cost more later" being one that I see in particular.

How many groups actually use these tactics, though? I'm honestly not sure I've heard that one, it's usually "You'll be the first one to get one" sort of thing, or if its about being cheaper, it's "It will be cheaper for everyone since we'll be able to do this in a much bigger batch with a known quantity", rather than "an then it will suddenly become more expensive."
Well, for one, Minecraft used that scheme. (going from 10$ at alpha to I believe 60$ at release?)

It's also the first time I saw somebody tried to use that scheme.

It was like 2 years ago and my memory might have been compromised!

I just remember the time when I saw minecraft website with 1 youtube of glorious rail track and there was the page on how the price will get higher and higher further into development.

Huh. Though wouldn't that still be an example that contradicts the point Neo was making, that the people who claim that never actually end up giving the backers a better deal?

31-ish NZD, so probably 27-ish USD?

Also:
spending the money on porn
Who spends money on porn? Other than crazy people? Anyone? Or am I in the minority here?

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

I guess if you wanted some very specific niche porn you could offer patronage to a producer who made the kinds of things you like.

What, like spider fetishes? I'm pretty sure I saw a movie about spider fetishes one time.

Ok this is a new one that I've just seen but I'll add it...

-Releasing the game "Finished" unfinished intentionally so people buy it.

You get that, especially with games geared towards reviewers / early hype. Typical paid game reviewers don't spent too many hours on your game (they're paid piecemeal), so frontloading all the cool stuff, then tacking on a bunch of repetitive missions/enemies in the middle and later part can net you better initial reviews than spending the same money in a more balanced way.

I don't understand what you mean there.
You mean taking a finished game but only releasing part of it at first, or saying that a properly finished game actually isn't?

The second.

The first is common but not in indie titles.

Have you followed Total War or Elder Scroll games at launch? A bit like that.
In case you haven't, both series tend to more often than not release games that are (for some/many people) horribly broken at launch, to the point of looking more like betas than 1.0 releases at times.

I think this is a pretty balanced analysis of crowdfunding and how it compares to the other alternatives: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0ljzAi5DuA

Basically, crowdfunding is the only way many games can be made, it opens up possibilities that have never before existed, and the massive potential benefits from this system far outweigh the risks, although of course risks do exist.
This, basically. Since basic income* doesn't exist yet, it's a necessary evil.

*Labour costs may not account for the whole budget, but they're surely the most significant part.

Why not measure it in Stalins? Estimates tend to be about 20 million of his own people
No, it is about 700 000. Where did you get your 20 million figures?

You're thinking of the people that he personally ordered executed (and the actual figure is more like 1.5 million). However, the 20 million number includes deaths from gulags, deportations, and similar things.
The number of people Stalin personally ordered executed were more like 40 000. The gulag death number is about 600 000. Taking deportations into account I would say 700 000 is too low, but a fantasy number like 20 million is just ridiculous.
