I don't have much to counter that, so I switch to Carbink. He recently learned Power Gem and Moonblast to replace Smack Down and Dazzling Gleam.

Before I could finish Aerodactly, Greevil switched out.

It has some ability that announced itself with "Piece the heavens with your drill!"



It then proceeds to pierce Vaporeon's heavens with its drill.

I try Unfezant to dodge the Earthquake. It tried Heavy Slam instead, but I Detected it. Dodged the next one with Fly, but was reduced to one hitpoint by the next one when Love Bird landed. I Detect again. I'm not sure how many PP Heavy Slam has, but I doubt it's 5. At least I took a 1/3rd of its HP with Fly, so I try that again and hope for a critical(Love Bird does have Super Luck).



No critical, but a near kill. Unfortunately, all the rest of my team has weaknesses against Golurk, either Ground or Ghost. Still, I don't know if it has any Ghost moves, so I throw in Meowstic.



Didn't matter, Meowstic was faster.

He sends Aerodactly back in, and I switch to Carbink to revive Vaporeon and Unfezant.





Another one I have no counter for, but Carbink should be able to tank it.





Don't I already have a Shadow Geodude?



That cost me half my team. Why did I even bother?!

Okay, things are really coming together now. Finally getting some backup here, and a plan is starting to deal with the problem once and for all.

For now, though, let's check out this new base.

(Yes, I'm immediately teleported there. I guess that was how I'm supposed to get to Carinae Town)



Looks a bit more modern. I'll admit the wall texture looks like ass, though. I kinda miss the dusty cave my base started out with.

The far left has five square carpets for new things, and there's a few doors blocked off by boxes.



I should probably check it for snakes.



Upstairs, instead of a bed to heal with, there's a full-blown Pokémon Center with a café. Cool. But then, the bed was faster healing.

There are many upgrades: All the ones I forgot before, including possibly the random wandering Pokémon(there aren't any Misdreavus anymore ), Red/Blue/Green/Yellow/Event Move Tutors, Day Care, Day Care Garden, Egg Hatching Tunnel, EV Resetter, Online Worker(probably for trades, etc), Name Rater, Move Relearner, Move Deleter, IV Changer, Hall of Glory, and an upgrade to the PokéMart I already have.

Currently drooling over what I want to buy.

I try out the Mart upgrade, and it allows me to buy IV Stones, Dream Stones, Lucky Eggs, EXP Shares, and Amulet Coins, but I can no longer buy any of the regular Mart stuff. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to use the Dream Stone in Aroma. The IV Stone is a big one though, since the base can get the IV Changer.

The R/B/G/Y Move tutors teach moves in exchange for all those damn shards I've been getting while mining. The Blue one has: Iron Defense, Magnet Rise, Magic Coat, Block, Hyper Voice, Electroweb, Icy Wind, Aqua Tail, Iron Tail, Earth Power, Zen Headbutt, Foul Play, Superpower, Gravity, Dragon Pulse, and Dark Pulse.

The Event Move Tutor is different. For Ł10,000, he teaches the signature moves of other Pokémon and other rare moves that "Event Pokémon" only learn normally. He has: Roar of Time, Spacial Rend, ExtremeSpeed, V-Create, Doom Desire, Focus Punch, Boomburst, Hi Jump Kick, Draco Meteor, Superpower, Megahorn, Zap Cannon, Aura Sphere, Nasty Plot, Meteor Mash, Double-Edge, Seismic Toss, Hypnosis, Octazooka, False Swipe, Giga Drain, Heal Bell, Morning Sun, Focus Punch, Blaze Kick, Wish, Extrasensory, Crush Claw, Flare Blitz, Psycho Boost, Acrobatics, Dark Pulse, Electro Ball, Shift Gear, Secret Sword(might be Sacred Sword), Bolt Strike, and Blue Flare.

Okay, some of those aren't too rare, but that's a hell of a list. However, none of my Pokémon seem to be able to learn anything, not even some of the sensible ones, like Blaziken learning Hi Jump Kick(though he could have gotten Superpower).

Getting the Day-Care upgrade brings the old gay couple back from Vesryn, one of whom looks suspiciously like Greevil... Getting the Day Care Garden opens up the back area.



Nice, wide-open place for them. I shall resist the urge to place both a Skitty and Wailord here. Mainly because I have no way of getting either in Aroma, and I can't actually get Skitty in Vesryn, just Delcatty.

The Egg Hatching tunnel connects me to a branch of the Pokéhadron Collider(or it looks like), which loops around.

The Hall of Glory is a room with statues.



This appears to be the group I beat the Elite Four with. The second and last ones are actually Klefki and Heliolisk.

Adding the Move Relearner, I notice Meowstic has Covet on the list. I realize far too late I could probably have nabbed some Mega Stones with that. I probably should also get the Name Rater to rename her to Patchoulli, since she has a Quirky Nature and stated to be "somewhat stubborn".


...I probably should get away from this base before I spend all my money.

I know it was mentioned before, but we're a monarchy? Odd, I thought is was some kind of Asskicking->Authority thing we had in this country. Feudal warlordism, I think. Maybe we've progressed.

Uh... thanks, but I still think Poison-types are pretty useless. There isn't any particularly powerful Poison-type moves, although Poison Jab has a power of 80.

First question: Which of these moves changes type based on a Pokémon's genetics? Secret Power, Nature Power, Hidden Power.

Well, Secret Power is based on the environment, I've never figured out Nature Power, but Hidden Power is based on a Pokémon's secret IVs, so I assume it's that.(correct)

Second question: Which of these Pokémon is the fastest? Jolteon, Weavile, Mewtwo, Electrode.

Actually, I think it's supposed to be Electrode. I remember the anime had an episode involving a race, and some idiot was running atop an Electrode(none of the others were in that episode), until it fell in a hole, Exploded, and presumably killed them both.(correct)

Third Question: Which of these Pokémon is NFE? Rhydon, Phione, Probopass, Vaporeon.

What the hell is NFE? Not For English? Not a Fucking Evolution? I'm going to guess Phione, since it is the only one not an evolution.(wrong)

It was Rhydon. Next question: What is the highest possible damage dealable by a move? 255, 481266036, 65536, 4294967296.

Oh crap, I remember this one. Definitely not 255 or 65536. 255 is the upper limit to an unsigned 8-bit value, 65536 is actually 1 higher than the upper limit of an unsigned 16-bit value. All I remember for sure that it was done by a level 100 Shuckle against a level 1 Ladyba after the Shuckle maxed its defense, used Power Trick, Defense Curl, and hit Ladyba with the 5th hit of Rollout. My first guess was 481266036.(correct)

Two more questions, he says. Which of these Pokémon can learn Shadow Force? Darkrai, Dialga, Arceus, Palkia. My first guess is Darkrai, the shadow legendary. Dialga is a dragon, Arceus is God, and I forgot what Palkia is, I figure Giratina would better fit the move.(wrong, it was Arceus. Does Arceus learn everything?)

Last question: What property holds true if a Pokémon were all types except Fairy? It would have 6 immunities, it would be weak to Fire, it would be weak to Rock, it would be immune to Ice.

The last one is right out, there is no immunity to Ice. It's not 6 immunities, since it'd be 7 - Normal(Ghost), Ghost(Normal), Psychic(Dark), Fighting(Ghost), Electric(Ground), Ground(Flying), and Poison(Steel). That leaves a weakness to either Fire or Rock. Fire is strong against Bug, Grass, Steel, and Ice, but resisted by Rock, Water, Fire, and possibly Ground. Rock is strong against Flying, Fire... and I think that's all, but it's resisted by Grass, Fighting, Ground, and I think Water. Since I don't know for certain about Ground, I pick weakness to Fire.(wrong, Rock after all. I really need to review the type table)



If you can consider process of elimination fair. Or for that matter, does meta knowledge make it fair, even in a quiz about meta knowledge?

Anyway, that's enough of this town. The only thing left was someone offering a trade of Infernape for Smeargle, and his sister saying to trade the Smeargle for a Ditto in Cephei Town. Unless there's some kind of trade chain there, I'm not going to bother.

I feel like I've been here before. Anyway, Meowstic shoots off Shadow Balls at Espeon after putting up a Light Screen.

After Espeon drops, Rapidash comes out.



Heh. Greevil's orders, it's mine.

It nearly killed itself in Hyper Mode, but I finally got it into a ball.

Jolteon was next. Apparently, this self-insert likes Eevolutions. However, he Volt Switched to Flygon, who uses Earthquakes Mawile before I could Baton Pass to Carbink. Earthquake proves too much for Carbink as well, so I switch to Unfezant to dodge it. Love Bird brings Flygon down to about a single hitpoint before Outrage takes him down. Carbink comes out again because Outrage gives him a free hit.

Swampert is next, or rather, Mega Swampert. The first turn, he's burned by Vaporeon's Scald. The next turn, Vaporeon is ironically frozen by Ice Punch, but defrosts on the next attack.

Jolteon came back out and I had forgotten about Volt Switch. I sent Mega Blaziken to give it a swift Flame Kick to the head. Actually, all that did was burn Jolteon, while Jolteon fried Blaziken. Then, when Jolteon was almost down from the burn, he took out Meowstic with Volt Switch to Vaporeon.

Next up was simply a cold war of Vaporeon against Vaporeon. He kept using Toxic, and I kept using Antidotes until he ran out. The only attack move he had was Scald, which is useless against both Vaporeons. I did learn, however, that a Pokémon using Scald can defrost itself, unless that was a bug. Along the way, Suzerain switched back to Jolteon, who promptly fell over from the burn. In the end, my endurance(and items) won out. Suzerain's Vaporeon Struggled itself to death. For some reason, the animation for Struggle is a bunch of Latiases with mecha wings.

Just as a heads-up, you can't steal Mega Stones. (Or, at least, you can't in the 'real' games.) They also can't be knocked off or Embargo'd. Partially because you'd be very unhappy if you fought one without a thief on hand, and partially because it'd be total BS if enemies could steal your unique items!

Speaking of Megas, I learned that Mega Mawile is a total glass cannon, highest attack power, but lowest stat total. Interesting, since I've been using her as a tank secondary to Carbink.

Well Akura this game has a compulsive need to give you as little cool stuff as possible until you long since stopped needing it.

You did miss quite a bit of megastones... but honestly not that much.

I expect the event tutor is just there to allow you to recreate event 'mons like V-Create Rayquaza. (And Victini. Seriously, Nintendo? You make a nigh-impossible to get event legendary, and then make its signature move only available via a different event?!?)

Secret Sword is a real move, and not just a typo of Sacred Sword. It's another event-only signature move that can be learned by Keldeo, and having it turns Keldeo into its alternate forme.

And yeah, I didn't know Arceus could learn Shadow Force, but I knew Darkrai couldn't because (surprise!) Nintendo recently released a special event Darkrai that knew it and pointed out that was the only way Darkrai could have it.

Yeah, there's apparently a trend in this post involving everything being about event pokemon. It's kind of become absurd how much event-related stuff the Pokemon series has been cramming in.

I honestly don't know why Pokémon never just wipes the slate clean and goes "Ok, no more event pokemon past this cut off point, they will be available normally".

I found Gen III's event Pokemon annoying, since you needed them to fix the Berry glitch. I did read that merely acquiring Deoxys or Jirachi, even through game hacking, fixes it, but that didn't make sense, since they also sent the patch with an event shiny Zigzagoon.


I'm also curious to see if Diancie is in these games, since it's an event-only Gen VI legendary, and as far as I can tell, Gen VI was added as an afterthought to O/Z. Diancie is supposed to be a mutant Carbink, so maybe I should breed it with Ditto and hope for birth defects? That sounded horrible, which means it  might be the correct course of action.

Had to drag myself away from the Secret Base, since now I've got a small disparity in levels, because the only Gym Leader battles I can reasonably take are Devon and Gideon, whom Mawile and Vaporeon can't really fight.

It's a small difference, and should be fixed on Route 4X.

First was Honchkrow. I switched to Carbink and gave it a Moonblast to the face.

Kabutops was second. His Mega Drain was useless while Vaporeon set him on fire. Yes that makes sense.

Omastar was third, and shared the same firey-watery fate that Kabutops had.

Last was Shedinja. Carbink really didn't need to do much here. Plus, what's the point of min-maxing Shedinja?

Further along the way, I found a Scientist with an Aegislash that knew Sacred Sword. I didn't know that anything besides the Musketeers could get that.

She had Tropius, Blastoise, and Golem. Tropius fell to Meowsitc, Blastoise gave Mawile trouble so I switched to Vaporeon, who also took down Golem.

Anyway, time to check out this Gym. NPCs in town say Enelle uses Poison-types, so Mawile and Meowstic are up front. They say that there's also some problem with getting past his guards, more than just beating the crap out of them I guess. I also head back to the Secret Base and get the Move Tutors to replace Mawile's Crunch with Iron Head(same damage, but Steel-type and a flinch effect).

I guess the whole trick to getting past Enelle's guards is that they will wreck your shit.

Currently, nobody on my team can learn Wormhole, not even Meowstic.

As for these holes, one leading to Kingdom City is blocked off, all but two of the rest go to other towns. One is clearly labled the secrent entrance to Cassiopeia's Gym, and one is too destroyed to read. Of course I'm going for that last one first.



Nothing here? Time Caller doesn't do anything, though I doubt it would ever work in this region. Fine, I go for the secret Gym entrance.



Thrusting hard into the rear here. I wonder, if I beat Enelle, will I ever be able to fight those guards again? I could use some endgame EXP later on.

Hey, if Meowstic is Patchouli, what does that make Mawile? Rumia? Does that mean Mega-Evolving Mawile is the equivalent of removing Rumia's hairpin?

In order to retreat and heal, I have to go back through Katana Cave(the deathguards are still blocking the front entrance). That means more low-rate encounters.

Oh by the way, back to those two guard trainers, one of them was a killer, the other you have to lure into his line of sight to block through.

The rest of the gym involves ninja jumping across a ravine and switching a superguard's team with a weaker one.

If I could get behind a guard to swap his team, why couldn't I have just shanked him? I wouldn't have had to have a battle that way.

I haven't figured out what Drapion is. Bug/Poison? If so, a flaming facekick will fix that.




I was wrong about Bug/Poison, Flame Kick was not super-effective. Drapion got me with Aqua Tail, which didn't work a second time thanks to Speed Boost.





That looks like a Grass-type, so Flame Kick away.



Nope. Water. It used Scald, anyway.

Unfezant drops next against it, to a Draco Meteor. Poison/Dragon? That's a new one. I wonder where I can get one of those.



Vaporeon confirms it's Dragon-type with Ice Beam.



Really could have used Blaziken for that. Or Unfezant. I also assume that's his Mega.




I struggle to survive his Giga Drains, boosted by some Growths, while I heal up Blaziken. Blaziken can't Mega Evolve again, but I should still have an advantage.

Mawile finally goes down, then Blaziken manages to bring Venusaur down to critical with a critical Flamethrower before being taken down by a critical Sludge Bomb. Unfezant(also revived) comes out to finish this.





That's a rarity, a non-Gen I Shadow Pokémon. I think the only other non-Gen Is so far were Riolu and Absol.

Now, I wonder, does this warrant a Quick Ball or a Timer Ball? Screw it, I stocked up on Ultra Balls.



Meowstic went down on the first hit.



I forgot, are Fairy-types good against Ghost? I think it was the other way around. I do realize Fairy is bad against Poison.

Just one more badge to go. In between here and Polaris Town, there's two towns, the Therian Plateau, the Therian Cave, and Mt. Epsilon. I wonder if the Therian sites are related to the Kami Trio, since they have alternate Formes, called "Therian" Formes. Then again, those three are stuck in Vesryn, at least until I figure out this Wormhole thing.

I guess I'll soon find out.

I'm also curious to see if Diancie is in these games, since it's an event-only Gen VI legendary, and as far as I can tell, Gen VI was added as an afterthought to O/Z. Diancie is supposed to be a mutant Carbink, so maybe I should breed it with Ditto and hope for birth defects? That sounded horrible, which means it  might be the correct course of action.
