The game works in 'moves'you can preform one action and one movement every move.
Here are the actions you can take:
(S)pawn in your dwarf. They appear on the map edge
(M)ove, you can go north south east or west
(U)se, you can use most things, things that can be used have a * at their center.
(R)emove building, you skip 10 moves
(F)ire weapon, used to fire weapons, obviously

(A)ttack, I use hitpoints as i dont want to track anything.
(D)ig, You can specify a type of digging, i.e channeling or mineing, for mineing or other things that are on the same plane as you, specify a direction.
(T)ake, You can pick up all items.
(D)rop, you can drop any items you are holding.
(C)onstruction site, bring the materials to it to build it.

Any creature or building in dwarf fortress can spawn/be built. Have fun!
