The other thing is that I'd object to calling those Renegades. Renegade Space Marines, in my definition, are the ones who don't serve Chaos or the Imperium ala Soul Drinkers and the chapters that go around outside Imperial authority setting up petty kingdoms (as opposed to the Ultramarines doing that inside the Imperium uweeeoooo~).
I know eh, but I was checking with sources and that's apparently the official designation. Also, not that much Marines set up their petty kingdoms and not finally fall into Chaos anyway.

Renegades is more or less a catch all term for every marine that has been cast out or left the Imperium, whether they're still loyal to the Emperor, just trying to go it alone or galloping down the path to corruption. The Traitor Legions being the exception to this of course since they're their own category.

You either live a villain, or die enough times to become a villain.

I always just called those excommunicat traitoris, as although the traitor legions are also under that moniker, it's a little bit more justified than some of the others.
But it's probably not a better title than "renegade chapters", whom I'm just waiting for Gabriel Seth to join the ranks of.

(In other news, how long until the Minotaurs are straight-up the chamber militant of the Hereticus?
So far there's only one little pesky law in the way, and those things get bent all the time.)

The chamber-militant of the Hereticus is the Sisters of Battle, isn't it? I think the Minotaurs are the chamber-militant of the High Lords or something.

Correct. Xenos is Deathwatch, Malleus is Grey Knights.

Yeah, the Minotaurs serve as the High Lords hitmen more than anything else.

Yeah they basically run around and kill other chapters because someone asks them to, but they mostly seem to only answer to High Lords of Terra. Kind of "what-if" Custodes took heads out of their asses and joined everyone in that grimdark dick-measuring contest.
