Weirdly enough I feel like Warhammer is one of the most social of nerd sports. It would have to be #2 right behind MTG, and even that is very playable on computer now. (not to say TTS 40k isn't pretty advanced now, but it doesn't have the right feel).

That being said if anyone's keen for an online W40k RPG whilst we wait for this whole thing to blow over, I'm down.
I have zero experience in FFG, and some experience GM-ing Wrath & Glory, and my timezone is Oceanic Night Shift which translates roughly to 1:00am-5:00pm EST. So.. oops.

I could go down for one too. As long is forum based so I can spread the attention on it. I even have the sourcebooks for the RPGs if needed.

I'm curious as to how a tank would evolve. Would it climb out of the primordial ooze wiggling it's track-nubs, feeding on smaller jeeps before crawling onto the shore having evolved proper treds?

So one of the many projects GW has mentioned in the recent past is somehow related to the Old World of WHF. Exact details are sparing and it's all a long way off, but FW has now revealed they're working on stuff for Kislev.

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2020/03/23/the-old-world-ice-guard-of-kislevgw-homepage-post-4fw-homepage-post-2/

Which is an odd angle to start with. Kislev hadn't really had any attention in rules or fluff for a long time prior to the world blowing up. Makes me wonder if the plan is to have more factions this time around.

Also odd that it's Forgeworld that's doing this unit, they normally make units to add to existing army rosters when they aren't doing a FW only product line like HH, so I'm wondering if this might be a FW project in general.

Kislev was recently in the second blood bowl video game, evidently as a replacement for slann of all things.

What does a Prime Hermeticon do?

Absent any specific fluff I assume they administrate the lower ranking Magos of the Mechanicus and assign them tasks in pursuit of the Hermeticon's plans and projects, or the greater goals of the Mechanicus as a whole.

They're the highest ranking of the Magos, so it seems reasonable to assume they govern over the others when they aren't busy working in their preferred field.

Is their preferred field "worshiping a C'tan at the center of Mars"?

Given that they can be found everywhere and some aren't even followers of the orthodox Mechanicus doctrine I'm going to say they have the same range of preferred fields as every other tech-priest. Biology, chemistry, physics, augmentation, robotics, logistics and so on.

If a tech-priest who likes making genetically enhanced humans becomes a Prime Hermeticon they're probably going to just keep working on better forms of genetic enhancement.

They're probably the guys who get to the level of skill required to make suits of artificer armour or master quality plasma guns.

I know what you're referring to with "highest ranking of the Magos" but I don't think that's correct. I think it's some kind of specific speciality, like how Magi Biologis specialise in the study of biology or how necromechanics focus on repairing the vehicles and personnel of the Mechanicus.

Codex Adeptus Mechanicus has this for the Prime Hermeticon Warlord trait:
Quote
Let none doubt the cold and logistical hatred of the Machine God and its power to invigorate the faithful.

Friendly <FORGE WORLD> INFANTRY units within 6" of your Warlord can re-roll failed hit rolls in the Fight phase.

There's also the Prime Hermeticon in Mechanicus, who gives you missions to hunt down bosses (while being rather enthusiastic about it) and after beating one of them says that cleaning up the normal forces afterwards are outside what a Prime Hermeticon cares about.

I guess their job is to make people more enthusiastic about violence?

Well in the wikias it says that it's the higher rank a magos can have. So surely they are the leaders of their respective alcoves or clubs or whatever. It would seem that among several magos the Hermeticon would be either in command or in charge of the higher priority targets/functions/tasks.
