Volcano embark at the bottom of the Sea
« on: June 28, 2014, 06:06:35 pm »

Just for fun, I used Embark Everywhere to get my dwarves on a volcano island that was entirely surrounded by water.  Surprisingly, it was on the bottom of the sea!  I quickly saved it and got some pictures of the embark using Overseer that I think you guys may enjoy:

Pretty spectacular. How did you manage the stereogram? It it as simple as just taking a screenshot, panning left or right briefly, and taking another screenshot?

Finished: Weatherwires, the Last Mountainhome. A tragic mix of Children of Men, City of Ember, and, uh, magma.
Stymied: Correspondence from Syrupurns, a prematurely ended narrative, told through annual updates.
In Progress: Roomcarnage, a fortress clinging to life beneath a haunted glacier.

I just saw a guy with two broken legs push a minecart with a corpse in it. Yeah.

@Peregarrett: OMG! I laughed at that until I cried!  You're awesome.

I don't really think there's a way to make it playable except maybe turning off cave-ins or something.  Each tick, it stops the screen with the "Cave in!" message as one more bit of water interacts with the volcano magma and creates some obsidian which then drops to the bottom of the 'cano shaft.  I'll post the save anyway just so people can enjoy the show for themselves.

I think if you're patient enough, the volcano becomes capped with obsidian at the end. But just after embark you'd need to surround the wagon with walls and floors, using dfhack, to avoid drowning.

I'd like to try it.
