Quote from: A Weekend with Wendell review
Wendell breaks all of Sophie's crayons and commits various other atrocities

Sophie waits till Wendell is asleep, then beats him nearly to death using a tube sock filled with batteries

I thought that was unnecessarily harsh for a children's book
wow, I suppose it’s not as bad as children nearly getting eaten by a witch
That's the kind of book I'll be reading my kids.
it was a bedtime story for me, (Hansel and Gretal)
I meant the other one, the one with the beating with a sack of batteries, but I'll probably read them both.

I'm a little surprised!  I thought the story went out of favor around the time I was a kid.  But (making some birthyear assumptions) maybe it stayed strong 13 years later.  And maybe even now?

It's a pretty dark story in its entirety though.

"Unrelated":
No Rest For The Wicked is a comic about fairy tales.  Like the Princess & the Pea, Puss in Boots, Beauty & The Beast, and more.  It's often funny!

Why would it go out of favor it's a classic tale!

Off the cuff I would have said the story about the rabbit who keeps eating off a farmer's plot.

I wasn't taught the story of Rapunzel for reasons.

Is it a radish or a turnip story where a progressively larger line of people all help to pull it out of the ground?

Which fairy tale involves the radishes?

In one version of Rapunzel the vegetables that the husband steals from the witch's garden are radishes.  (Makes sense in the comic, see the tower they are being thrown out of.)  More commonly it thought to be campanula rapunculus, or some other salad green.

How did they think you’d accomplish that? A Ouija board?

An even darker art:  Having lawyers weave a last will and testament.
(Or solicitors in LW's case I think?  With ceremonial wigs)
