Never heard of Viva la Dirt before … gotta say they are amusing enough and have quite decent production quality too!

I would love to like Viva more, but... I feel like so many of their skits come so close to being really funny, but either come too short or go on too long.

I'm taking some perverse amusement in watching the mess that Reddit's creating.

I doubt it'll have any major impact, too many people are addicted, but it's fun watching it unfold. Especially when Spez said that Apollo threatened them on a phone call so the dev went and posted the whole call for everyone to listen to.

What's happening and who are those people?
Apollo is a third party app that uses Reddit's API. Spez is the CEO of Reddit.

Basically, Apollo (And a load of other third party apps that use the API) were told they'd need to give Reddit $20m a year for continued access in what was very obviously a move to try and strangle them. This upset a lot of people as it's likely a move to try and force more ads on people and increase use of the app as preparation for Reddit going IPO.

Apollo's dev went public with the whole thing, which is what cause a backlash. Spez, trying for damage control, said that Apollo's dev attempted to blackmail them for $10m (basically saying he said "Give me $10m and this all goes away"). Apollo's dev then released the whole phone call because he lives in a single party consent state and had recorded it without Spez knowing, showing that while Spez initially thought it was a threat, Apollo's dev clarified what he meant (Basically saying he'd sell it to Reddit for $10m since they apparently thought it was worth double that) and Spez apologised for misconstruing it.

Needless to say, that worked as damage control as well as throwing water into an oil fire.

Then Spez decided to do an AMA. He answered 14 questions and bailed, as well as increasing potential investor confidence by straight up stating that Reddit's unprofitable and they'll keep enshittifying Reddit until it's profitable.

It's an exercise in fuckups, and a lot of major subreddits are doing a blackout for two days in response, with a number of those ones actually going indefinite.

Let's not ignore that a lot of the FREE content moderators use the third party apps because they're so much more useful than the official app for moderating.

EDIT: What I'd come here for in the first place: Continuing listening to My Dad Wrote A Porno, s4e5 finishes off with a sex scene (Shocker) which the main character interrupts by exclaiming "Is that the turkey?!"

Oh Rocky, you have a mind that's so stupid and fucked that it wraps around entirely into being inadvertent genius.

(of course, blacking out for a whole two days will do an entire nothing.)

You must not have watched Monty Python then as I found all of it quite funny.

Seems unlikely. Even sketch shows I really like have misses in them.

It's rare i didn't have at least a laugh in a Monty Python sketch, at least in their time.
Maybe they didn't aged well, i don't know as it's been a very long time i haven't watched them again

The movies were definitly a cut above the rest Monty Python did. The rest was quite high-tier for it's time but "just TV"... But idk maybe it's just personal but all the old comedy stuff from like 1960 to 2010 had it's expiration date sometime in 2014 or so, alltogether collectively. Or maybe that's just me, but nowadays those who didn't get the memo got stuck on doing SNL or similar TV shows, but they never had the same pull again. Watching old stuff can be funny, but it takes a special mindset, and they aren't funny in exactly the same way they were in the past, that what TV comedy à la SNL struggles to get: they are still doing the same bits just in a modern context.

New comedy is usully DOA except for the timeless stuff of our era... struggling to come up with examples but there are some.

IDK maybe I lost most of my humor to my mental health struggles but I don't think so, I used to watch every "stand-up" show I could find on YT... But at some point it got more fullfilling to rewatch my favourite stuff than to scrape the barrel, and from there on it has been rare that I would find some pearl. Hell there are TV shows I used to watch religiously that got too foke for a freak like me, hate to sound like an identitarian, but some stuff has substituted what used to be research by sheer nagging...... If I wanted to hear a woman complain how hard it is to be pregnant I'd watch old episodes of ladies nights, or quatsch comedy club with a flamboyantly gay moderator back when that took courage, at least they knew to pack it into jokes. These days you have Sarah Bosetti eating away extra 3 airtime by reading you a text that exudes superiority, from a fucking piece of paper in front of the camera... Don't fucking validate chuds like that you unfunny nag.

Modern comedy doesn't do it for me, I prefer the older stuff.

I can't even parse what that means, tbh. It's like saying modern music doesn't do it for you, when modern music is producing stuff from basically every genre that's existed in the history of music, sometimes right down to the level of vintage fidelity and appropriately bespoke instrumentation.

"Popular modern comedy" would make more sense, but hell, that stuff ranges straight back into the styles of older stuff, too, sometimes right down to pop references that no one's cared about for generations. What does it even mean in a time when the creative output of just the field of comedy could drown the total creative output of major nations a century or three ago? Are you being literal and only appreciate works in the style of Aristophanes, full of sexual innuendo, poop jokes, and political commentary?

Not sure what to tell you man, I just know I haven't been that fond of the newer TV and movie related comedy things I've seen, I think most of them would count as popular if that helps any.
