Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It is quite funny, until you start reading the bottom article...

The top article reads like a fluff piece, while the bottom article reads like a plea for help, a release from the hell that he is being subjected to. Every single sentence tells a story of a nation in chaos, a nation just barely holding on and in pure desperation.

I think that's the Onion.  Point-Counterpoint was one of their mainstays (probably still is)

Yeah, that definitely looks satirical. Still funny though.

My mom actually lived in Nigeria for a little while. She doesn't really have any intentions of going back. The first time having a warlord seize your house at gunpoint is plenty enough for most people.

The articles, in fact, use the Onion logo to signify end of text.

Saw this listing for a phone:

They're claiming that this thing has 8GB of storage and 128GB of RAM.
I know most people have sanity checks to swap the numbers, but I just know there's some dickhead out there who's gonna complain when they receive their phone, and it doesn't have 128GB of RAM.

ROM isn't storage, it's Read-Only Memory. While that's probably a misprint, it's still implying that the 8GB isn't something the user can store stuff in.

Also, flash memory is RAM by definition. The whole of the device's storage in fact falls under the definition of RAM (random-access memory).

Tell that to the people in my country. ROM, in the context of phones, is storage to them. It's entirely wrong, but it's too ingrained by now.

ROM isn't storage, it's Read-Only Memory.

Well, read-only memory is persistent, is it not? So it would be "storage," just probably for firmware and not for user-level stuff.

And, technically, flash memory is considered read-only memory, or EEPROM in particular, despite that it can be erased and reprogrammed quickly enough for it to act as some manner of a replacement to a hard disk drive.

It is true that all of the phone's memory is random-access, though.

Electronic technicians here in Brazil refer to the firmware storage in PICs as ROM, even if it isn't exactly that, because it stuck from older chips. Maybe it is something like that?

In the end of the day it doesn't really matter what words you use as long as the meaning gets passed.

Unless you are a professional. Please use appropriate terminology, if I have to go trough one more drawer looking for the "fatty" capacitor another time I'll murder everyone in this room.
