Got a call today.

Me: Hello, this is Kagus.

Strange man: *long pause* Yes hello sir, I am calling, I am calling from Computer Operations Department, is your computer downloading?

Me: Computer Operations Department? Which Computer Operations Department? Where?

Man: *Long pause* Hello sir?

Me: Hello?

Man: Yes hello sir, we are calling about your computer, your computer is downloading a virus infection and we have received warning message about your computer.

Me: My computer? So, you have the specific computer identifier then? Could you just recite that for me?

Man: *Starts rattling off my first name (which I answered with) and phone number (which he is calling)

Me: No no, not my ID, I meant the computer's ID, its unique internal address and identifier (I don't know what I'm rambling about by this point). Could you recite that?

Man: Hello?

Me: Yes, could you recite that?

Man: *Angry swearing* [hangs up]

That's probably the strangest con attempt I've seen.

I mean, one thing is saying you're from Microsoft and that there's a problem with your Windows computer, but who the hell is Computer Operations Department? Actually, saying that, I know people it would work on... Nevermind.

Got called up again today by someone using my full name and asking me if I'd heard about Forex. It became increasingly clear that this was just some scam attempt what with how dodgy the guy was being (and the omnipresent background chatter! Always a good sign), so I ended up getting a bit short with him and saying that I don't generally tend to take financial investment advice from strangers associated with companies I'd never heard of (Admiral Markets or something) calling my private phone number in the middle of the day, during work hours (I mean, I'm unemployed, but he doesn't have to know that).

"Well sir, I'm at work too and I found the time to call you..."

I just hung up at that point. The complete absurdity of that statement left me speechless.

Firstly, the fact that the creators of Call of Duty: Black Ops cannot even write roman numerals correctly, secondly... well, that might be a tad too offensive to laugh about at here. Suffice to say there's an outcry over it in the news across the pond. :))
