It keeps flashing "unresponding" every now and then and then it's fine, so I don't know. It's been longer than it took to initially make the world though, and the little blue >< isn't moving.

The blue >< is the start date I believe - the date it's actually genning will be a little brighter white then the other dates.

The blue >< is the target date for when the gen stops. The actual day it's working through is highlighted in bright grey/white. Which is really hard to see since the other dates are in normal grey and the contrast isn't that much.

Now I am not sure if it's not highlighting the current date, or if it's just too hard to see... Everything is grey except the name of the month and the blue X.

EDIT: No, I see it. One more day! I hope it doesn't take a real day...

It's really, really hard to see. Trust me on this. I only noticed it because of the colour changes. Also, it almost goes without saying, picking a smaller world with a shorter history will make the dates gen quicker.

waiting two weeks, spawned next to a deity, tried to say hello, it crashed everything. Now I'm waiting for it to re-generate those two weeks.

You didn't spawn next to one, that's the deity you worship. Talking to deities crashes the game... which is exactly as it was in 0.34.11.
