Friggin' ghost. One ghost. Never had so much trouble from these before.

I forgot to slab an axedwarf that came with a goblin siege. Her ghost punched my master woodworker in the dining hall during a party and now all but one of my dwarves is running circles around the depot, overcome by terror. Even some of the cats are freaking out. The only dwarf not terrified got into a mood while terrified. So he's skulking around look for a forge I can't build because nobody will go get the anvil.

I think my only hope is to raise my pop limit and hope for some sane migrants...

Seeing this consistently in 40.08:

Vile force of darkness arrives, two squads of goblins.

First squad gets killed, (the first squad did not observe the deaths, or they weren't in the fort at the time) second squad remains on the surface and mills about killing animals until the season changes.  They absolutely refuse to enter/re-enter the fort.

If both squads are killed at the same time, of course, the siege ends as normal.  If the first dies without the second nearby, they just... never attack.

There is a clear path to the interior of the fort, no doors or wall-bridges, weapon traps aren't in play.

"A migrant has arrived."

Yes, 1 dwarf.  Bringing my population from 99 to 100.

At least 100 is a nice round number. I know in the past I've drowned whole migrant waves and mostly useless peasants to keep my fortress population at exactly 300, back when the pop cap didn't work.

Well, my first impression was "This FPS's not gonna stay for long, is it?"
In 34.11 I am able to run 150(75) FPS and in the new one even 100(50) isn't sure. Sometimes 80-90 FPS on embark :(
As soon as I manage to do something, for example discover caverns and get migrants, FPS drops to 20-40.
Anyone has the same? :(

It depends.

In the new version, specifically in 40.08 w/dfHack, I only use:
-pocket world (17x17)
-zero rain
-40 drain (with above means 99% of the world is rocky wasteland, meaning no trees, no wild plants, no surface sapling growth, etc)
-3x2 embark size
-one cavern
-5000+ mineral scarcity
-very shallow world, typically <20 Z-levels from embark to magma sea, making volcanoes often unnecessary.
-no divine metals (useless in fortress mode)
-no savagery, no evil, no werecreatures, no vampires, no necromancers, no night creatures, no titans, no megabeasts, no semi-megabeasts
-2 demon types
-two civs (with several thousand goblins, the TRUE dwarven enemy)  ;D
-3 sites or less
-historical figures culled / don't reveal all historical events.
->90% of the world is the same elevation
-no rivers (no rain)
-max 40 dwarves
-[FLIER] fix

So, for me currently, my FPS in a 15 year old fort with a surface embark volcano is >400.

In a 257x257, 5k+ history, 100 rain, 100 drain, 100 civs, 100 sites, 100 mineral scarcity, 50+ demon types, broken fliers, three caverns, super dense flora, savage fauna, evil ground, evil rain, evil clouds, titans, megabeasts, werecreatures, vampires, necromancers, massive rivers, waterfalls, multiple rivers, 5x5 embark size, etc, I could see getting down into the single FPS digits quite quickly.

"Something has collapsed on the surface"

Yup. No trees for me then as I wasnt aware of this until year 4 when my fort is already built.

I like that its a lot easier to see what plants are on the ground for foraging. Having to press K over everything just to find strawberries was tedious as fuck. Now they're red!

When i trying to make my worlds like that (even with bigger sizes and 100 civs), i'm getting no goblins at all. Even in year 1. WTF?

You need at least 2 demon types.  Without at least 2 types, you will get no goblin civs.

Yeah, that'd probably be your issue.
