Dwarf Fortress real-life material helper
« on: July 14, 2014, 09:24:27 pm »

Download
Github
Javascript version (works in-browser!)

A nifty little tool that does all the math and balancing for you by copying reality's conveniently existing metals. You gather the data, this thing will put the data into DF.

Installation for non-browser version:

1. Install python.
2. Put contents of ZIP into pretty much anywhere.

Usage:

Readme in the Github link and zip should explain it. If there's any more info needed... I'll add it to the readme on request.

You mean Germany, right? :P There's no huge difference, they're both based on arbitrary reference points, temperature is the wet pool noodle of the bludgeons in metric's arsenal because it hasn't even been nailed down yet in a way that scientists like.

I like it!

Now we just need to get a repository of correct values going. Maybe we could get a group of people working together.

just so you know, whenever it generates a material the [USE_MATERIAL_TEMPLATE:METAL_TEMPLATE] is missing the last bracket

(this is really cool and I've made like 15 different materials I have no uses for, just because it's cool)

That's dumb! Fixed.

Just updated with some nice prints and various other really basic stuff for just in case you want it to not just open and close and maybe leave behind some raws if you did it perfectly right. It tells you if you did wrong now! Also gives you a neat little progress indicator in the form of "parsing (material)".

Excellent! Now then, off to make a stone that has the density of soft butter and a tensile strength of 40 trillion.

Perhaps I should include some limits on it so you don't overflow DF.

Which is to say, limit it to what DF limits it to.
