A figurine about the death of a still-living dwarf
« on: July 15, 2014, 02:56:28 pm »

My metalcrafter just made a figurine about my bookkeeper being killed by a desert titan in the year 152. However, it is now year 201 and the bookkeeper is healthy and has happily working ever since migrating into my fortress.

I immediately suspected him of being a vampire, but he has enjoyed food and slept in a bedroom, which at least previously vampires didn't do. No one has gone missing either, so is this a bug or did someone just steal his identity for other reasons?

Entities will sometimes spread rumors of their death. That event was probably taken for the figurine creation, and who knows, maybe it was a joke aimed at the dwarf in question.

Stake him, just to make sure? :)

You could have berries on the rocks and the dwarves would say it was "berry gneiss."
You should die horribly for this. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Could it be a different dwarf with the same name? Names are procedurally generated after all.

Creatures can have casual discussions about their own deaths which is amusing, could be related to that.

I think past a certain point it stops being the generic "figurine" and starts being the more specific "voodoo doll"  *grin*

I'm new to succession forts in general, yes, but do all forts designed by multiple overseers inevitably degenerate into a body-filled labyrinth of chaos and despair like this? Or is this just a Battlefailed thing?

There isn't much middle ground between killed-by-dragon and never-seen-by-dragon.

Falsified rumours are a thing? That's interesting.

Yes, falsified rumors are a thing, although I cant figure out how to actively spread rumors...but you can at least brag about killing things when you haven't.

Aside from the "I have faced many terrifying whatsits!" Message, I've never seen anybody lie, and have never got a false reported kill in adventure.

It's a reverse hostage situation, if you kill the snatchers they'll fill your fort with babies.

I don't think that you can do that as an adventurer. It would clutter the menu a bit, having lists for every person who's been alive.

I have seen tonnes of people lie. I don't think getting attacked by a giant chinchilla is entirely 'inevitable'
