Even on small worlds without long history, the xml export can take some time and with DF nonresponsive for the duration it's easy to think it's crashed and abort the whole thing.  Some indication of progress would help a lot.

Pretty much every feature that takes a long time to run could use some kind of indicator to show its progressing and that DF hasn't frozen.  This should be on a checklist for new features.
