Accessories override armor?

I gotten killed a couple of times by "X stabs you through the diorite crown brusing brain etc.." I wearing this crown on top of an iron helm. Did the attack ignore my iron helm? Do accesories offer extra protection?

The combat messages do not declare every clothing layer they pass through. The stab went through the iron helm, and through the crown, but it only displays the crown.

Never mind. See bug report in Footkerchief's post.

What accessories are safe to wear that aren't bugged? Rings would screw over gauntlets right? What about ear-rings? Do earrings screw over helmets?

Guess I read the link wrong, seems to say its just a display bug. Time to dress fancy again
