I have been playing Dwarf Fortress for a bit and have never bothered with traps or caged animals before. So in my latest fortress i decided to buy a few from an elf caravan.

So question: How the heck do i uncage them?

If they're tame (And they should be if you bought them from a caravan), you can just add them to a pasture. Your dorfs will remove them from their cage and put them where you want them. Take a look at the wiki - specifically, the "Cage" page.
