Playable CCS

How hard would it be to make the CCS optionally playable? (because not everyone dreams of being a liberal :p )

Very difficult. There are multiple threads about this already; it would basically require an overhaul of the game to the point where it would be an entirely new game.

Well that sucks, it would be really fun to curb stomp liberals instead of conservatives for a little variety (the extremists on both sides are equally stupid, so spending equal amounts of time blasting them would be fair)

Moderate crime squad doesn't quite have the same ring (sigh) so I guess no matter what we have to play crazy extremists.

Thing is it would take a bit more stretching to make the CCS funny. I mean... "dogs are people" is pretty funny, but how can "women are property" be spun to sound positive?

You don't have to go that far (even some of the wackiest conservatives don't believe that), I was thinking more along the lines of "shoot all druggies and gays, massive collection of guns, etc" type of thing.

Admittedly that seems less funny when written out... Probably not a good idea.

How bout just making the LCS computer controlled and giving the player the job of thwarting them as the cops?
Except that would be a way different game, probably too hard to implement and so not worth the time.

Yeah it's hard to articulate but there's a reason why Toady went with liberals back in the day that's pretty clear when you think about it.

You were talking extremists and indeed they do go that far, often. Bombing abortion clinics and shooting doctors is not about "protecting the children" or "sanctity of life" or "family values" but about controlling women. Removing every abortion clinic won't actually stop abortions. Back alleys and coat hangars will just claim more lives. Pretty stupid no matter how you look at it.

You can try to make the CCS adorable but flying planes into buildings (Muslim extremists are ultra Conservative) is not on the same level as making t-shirts, freeing rabbits, and selling pot.

To be fair Islamic extremist terrorists can have their funny moments. Al-Qaeda had a plot to sink a US Navy ship, but they sank their own boat by overloading it with explosives (source). This event among others inspired the satirical film Four Lions about an incompetent British Islamic terror cell. Considering the humour largely relies on them failing at things I'm not sure it'd carry over well into a game where you played as or against them.

In LCS, the laws are skewed so that the liberals are the good guys and the conservatives are the bad guys. For example, censoring free speech is something that conservatives do. In real life, the phrase "hate speech" gets bandied about mainly by liberals, not by conservatives.

The point is this: the liberals in this game are not real liberals, and the conservatives are not real conservatives.

Conservatives don't like saying their shit stinks, so of course they don't bandy about "hate speech" labels. They could only say it to a mirror. Please tell me all about how Liberal the KKK and white supremacist groups are in general.

Conservatives like their "Free Speech Zones" to be far away from them and only used for Liberals. The Bush Jr. Administration was pretty famous for them.

This could even be implemented in LCS. Currently the CCS does protect sites from you, in that they may appear as enemies in a foot chase. The LCS currently can't do the same thing.

A possible user interface would be that :
Add a pseudo site called "Vigilatism" into the menu for each of the town quarters , like "Downtown Vigilantism" or "Industrial District Vigilantism" ,... . If you send a squad to the location, and the CCS attacks this location, the squad is put in a foot chase with injured CCS members. If you succed, a news story about the heroic LCS Vigilates is written, and the issue of the site is liberalized. This could also generally make the firearms opinion more conservative, as it is an "armed citicen saves lives" story.  If the CCS doesn't attack this day, the vigilantism behaves just like an activity. There may even be other effects, like training street sence or random events without actual combat, like "LCS catches thief who tried to steal an old ladys handbag - the old lady thankfully donates 10$" or "LCS rescues a kitten, stuck in a tree".

As vigilatism does't happen at the site, but on the street, there is no need to implement the actual site (like abortion clinic), just call the footchase function with the right parameters and everything is fine.

The biggest problem is probably, that CCS actions take place in the function, that generates their story, so it would require some changes in the newspaper code.

The problems with making a version of LCS where the CCS is playable are these:

(1) - all of the things in the game that influence public opinion would need to be found and some of them significantly rebuilt. This would be a major, major overhaul, at least as significant as the entire planned Terra Vitae mod if not moreso (even in that mod I am not replacing the LCS with Terra Vitae...).

However, even more important,, is this:

(2) - in Liberal Crime Squad, the conservatives are villains. The issues that the game is based around are done so in order to make the conservatives villains. However, very few real conservatives believe that the penalty for any crime no matter how serious should be death, or that slavery was a good idea and that we should start it up again, or that elections should be corrupt, or even that private citizens should be allowed to own military hardware that would make them a threat to the United States army.

This latter point is what requires Conservative Crime Squad to be a whole new game - the issues that the heroic, player-controled CCS would be different from those that the LCS is fighting for in the game that we already have, in some cases having very little overlap. Sure, you could use the code for the LCS game as a starting point to make a CCS game, much as Jonathan Fox is using the code for LCS as a basis for his Zombie Survival Squad game. However, ZSS is not a mod for LCS; it's a brand-new game, and making a CCS game would be a similarly monolithic undertaking.
