Spider webs are extremely strong in proportion to their size, much like the spiders themselves. Cave spider silk clothes ought to be as strong as some metal armors!

Very strong, in  a way- they won't break, but they will stretch *a lot*. Unmodified spider silk, if worn as, say, a vest, would, if hit by a spear, quite possibly not break. It would, however, deform to match the spear, then spring back to its normal shape when the spear was removed. The end result: one non-broken vest, one spear-shaped hole beneath it. Ouch!

It might help against arrows and bolts. Sure, you'd end up with a badly bruised upper body, but not a pierced heart. Perhaps if it were combined with armor plates it could offer a great deal of protection.

This is a masterful adamantine plate plane. It is lined with masterful giant cave spider silk cloth. The cloth is exceptionally colored with dimple dye.

That would be a really cool addition, if at a weavers shop you could thread spider silk into existing armor to increase the defense of it.

silkshirts were actually used bu the mongols during the 12th centuary to protect against arrows in combat. The shirt followed the arrow into the flesh making the wound shallower, much cleaner, and also allowed the arrow to be easily retracted during battle.

Please do not turn this thread into a Mongolo fanboy spamfest.

Spider silk is like titanium and kevlar. People always say that they are stronger than steel. And they are, but by WEIGHT not volume.

That said, no one ever makes plate armour out of kevlar.

Be nice if spider silk had a better  modifier than silk and rope reed. In fact more cloth varieties would be great. Giant cave spider silk is the best but there should be some sort of above ground uber fiber.
