I noticed the ad for it on Paradox's forums the other day and was curious, but not curious enough to click the ad.  Is there a handy link to a set of new features?  Custom parks sound pretty cool, if that's something they're adding.

I need to look back over the DLC I have and what's available.  I really enjoyed it years ago when I first got it.
Parks are part of the previous DLC Park Life, they have zoos and city parks and stuff. Its really interesting, you place down the buildings and level them up over time.

I just started the RTgame video up, and once again it's apparent just how European the devs are. Toll booths? Where I live you just drive on the road full speed and the transponder does all the work. I guess they can't have that for balancing reasons or something?

Bits like this extend to other parts of the game, granted I'm not super into these games but it was quite noticeable when I played. Things like the lack of yield signs, no right turn on red (or left for left hand drive), and how drivers are actually relatively courteous from what I saw. Where's the setting to enable American driving, where rotaries are foreign and will cause traffic problems? Hell, I've seen tiny rotaries going into a shopping plaza that have stumped people and they're only 1 lane, I can only imagine what adding more lanes would do.

With that rambling aside, I'm going to watch the video now. He made some other dumb videos which were pretty funny. The one road challenge should not have worked.
The toll booths do have an optional 'electronic toll' policy that costs money but speeds up the toll process. I like the toll booths for traffic management too, you can use them to influence how many people use a certain path over others. The traffic AI will sometimes prefer a longer path with a lower or no toll over a quick but expensive path.

Ehehehe, toll booths at every exit to the city. NO CHOICE BUT TO PAY!

ahem.

I need some name suggestions for my industry areas.

I have one forestry area which churns out planks and paper right now:

I like the way the new industry areas look.

This down here will become my ore mining area eventually, making glass and metals.

Before this DLC, I always named industrial districts something like Smokestacks, Smogton, Coughsville, or somethng along those lines.

I have done that but the lumber industry is actually pretty clean, only a little pollution around the furniture factory.

Just started a big new city up north and now I have tolls at EVERY SINGLE entry/exit to the cities. Bwahaha

Try to go for tree or nature-ish puns.

The only specialized industry I ever tried in the base game was the lumber industry, since I was hoping that it was renewable and relatively low pollution.  I think that's actually true, but I never really tested it.

I was also hoping that people wouldn't complain, but I immediately started getting Chirper messages about "Why are you cutting down all of the trees!?"

In any case, the new DLC does look really nice, and is getting me back into the mood to play the game some.

Environmentalists will always complain about the tiniest little things.

The funny part is that one of the "buildings" that lumber industry zones can produce is a tree farm with higher tree density than you can find naturally.  So I was actually planting more trees.

Some of the chirper messages about the lumber industry actually laud you for switching to sustainable green industry now. I have a whole district using sustainable housing which puts out less garbage and uses less water and energy, and shops that sell local or organic products.

Current big problem is the stadium I put in. It draws massive amounts of tourist traffic into the city on game days and close the streets.

Pretty much every thing you do in skylines will have both people complaining about it and thanking you for it.

Just like real life!
But really, I bought the game at launch, is it better now?

I've only got 2 of the expansions, I believe, but even without them there have been some free features added over time that I thought were really nice.  Tunnels and underground roads, for example, were a free feature I believe.  It did feel a little shallow at launch, for reasons I could never put a finger on, but my last couple of cities felt much more engaging.

Now, if only I could start a city without nearly bankrupting it out of the gate because I want to establish a decent connection to the highway system that I won't have to come back and bulldoze later... because I can never plan properly so that such bulldozing doesn't involve also bulldozing people's homes...

Somebody needs to make a hardcore mod where you can't always bulldoze people's homes, or need to pay a shitload to do it.

I'd really like an expansion that would add a hard mode - politics. You'd have to deal with bullshit council politics which would hamper your development plans, suck money into fucked up projects due to corruption and nepotism, freeze things you want to do for years due to political fighting etc. I think that would explain nicely why real cities don't work as well as they could....
