OTTD montages.

That's what you get for using full load, Gau!

Oldest trick in the book.

Right next to my Pyramid of Awesomeness!

Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe!
What is OTTD?

I think this sums OTTD up the best:
[18:01] <Flame> lol squeegy
[18:01] <Flame> is that a mod of roller coaster tycoon or something?
[18:01] <Squeegy|Gone> no
[18:01] <Hollywars> open transport tycoon thing
[18:01] <Darkone> I'm coming~! :P
[18:01] <Flame> it looks exactly like roller coaster tycoon
[18:01] <Squeegy|Gone> it's open-source transport tycoo deluxe
[18:02] <Flame> but like
[18:02] <Flame> trains
[18:02] <Squeegy|Gone> it's...
[18:02] <Squeegy|Gone> roller coaster tycoon except without rollercoasters
[18:02] <Squeegy|Gone> and with passengers sometimes substituted with neccessities

So yeah. I think I would give this a bump. Any Bay12 people want to play at some time soon? Right now, as in right now, I'm hanging out on Reddit Server #1 (just search reddit in multiplayer and you will see it, once you get in ask for me, name is Werty) but ideally we could have our own server. If anyone could host, that would be awesome. Also, the game has been updated loads since that screenshot above, it's now at 1.4.2, so it will look different, be different, etc.

Maybe, maybe not. We've had a server before. Got burnt out after half a dozen separate games. It was still really fun. Having partners with different priorities was both maddening and exciting to fix the screwups or make things more efficient or expand networks. It wasn't just "sit on thumbs and stuff happens". I'm also pretty sure there's a topic already.

Going back and reading about that server was fun. Thanks werty.

I'm all for us having a server, as long as the maintenance costs aren't set as ridiculously high as last time. I could basically not make any profit at all. I wanted to do passenger  transport, but even with freight transport I could not find any spots left to build a freight line. All I found was two factories somewhat near to eachother that I could connect. Upon building a short train line, some dude told me "Oh yeah, I also built there but I removed it because it wasn't profitable".

I always end up playing this game for a week or two by myself and then I get bored.

I'd like to play. But last time I played I went crazy because of all the extensions, mods and dependencies I had to install to even get onto a server. Has this become a little easier?

Airplanes are the solution. Build two airports on opposite ends of the map and buy as many planes as possible. Instant monies.

There are no airplanes (worth bothering with) in the beginning.

If we do play, I suggest we do vanilla, because honestly, OpenTTD is not about making money, its about building. Making the money is just a method to faciltate that.

Can anyone here host a server? It does not have to be 24/7 and the requirements are very low.

NewGRFs are what makes OpenTTD so enjoyable though! NewGRF overloads can be annoying, although FIRS, a trainset or three, road vehicles/trams/streetcars, Av8 and FiSH make it much more enjoyable than standard.

Enough arguing for newgrfs though. 1.4.2 download page is linked, let's get building megaprojects. City on a mountain? Networks rivaling coop servers? Who knows.

After playing Railroad Tycoon 3 i must say... i kinda miss the ability to own a factory, dynamic goods transfer... or inteligent passengers.
Still it's a fun game... especially free.

Well, you can't own factories, but with 1.4.2 cargodist has been fully integrated so there is intelligent passengers, who will transfer from station to station to reach their destination, and goods transfer, at least in the sense that resources will supply certain suppliers (this might just be with ECS/FIRS)
