A Limiter on Military following hostiles

or neutrals.  :P

Essentially just a setting, most likely in the military schedule screen (m)(s), that determines how far a generic dwarf in that squad will peruse a hostile if told to station.

Throwing something out there, something like:

-beserker (current 34.11 default)

-doggedly (until enemy is X many tiles away)

-persistent (until dwarf has move XXX tiles away from station point)

-New default (dwarf will pursue for XX number of tiles)

-limited (dwarf will pursue for X number of tiles)

-defensive (dwarf will remain in sight of the station point (or within a tight radius))

-near stationary (As close to the station point as possible)

Also possible to be a timed event rather than a distance or LOS bit.

Something to retain some more continuity.

--- --- ---

Also possible for personalities to govern how effective the squads follow the directions.  Or discipline.

i think until they have high discipline/training they should respond much more to their fears/morale as to whether they "berserk" or stay put, so some untrianed yokels might chase a hostile kobold away from the gate they're supposed to be defending from goblins, but refuse to stand their ground when faced with a dragon (but admittedly that second part is in the game now), but once they are well trained you could give them a variety of orders like you suggested that they might obey if they're well trained enough.

I am quite looking forward to the next 20 or 30 years or so of developmental madness
