Running around babbling = dialog while throwing levers
« on: August 29, 2014, 10:23:06 pm »

Dorfs that go berserk are dangerous.  Dorfs that run around babbling should be MORE dangerous.

They should generate themselves hidden jobs to throw any nearby levers and see what happens.  In order that the player is suitably warned, there should be announcements that come up each time a lever is pulled.  Specifically there should be dialog worthy of a space cadet:

* Urist McNuts yells "Try and increase the power!"
* Urist McNuts commands "Full speed ahead!"
* Urist McNuts declares "Full impulse on my mark!"
* Urist McNuts exclaims "Commence evasive action!"

There shouldn't actually be any higher chance of him choosing a lever rigged to water or even magma, it should just seem that way.

It would be cool if they pulled levers.  But the phrases seem a bit anachronistic, hehe.

I totally support this. It would make super-secure lever rooms an absolute necessity, which is way cooler than just sticking everything in your dining hall.

Always a safe default assumption in this game

I realize now I had missed thinking of the best part.  A chance for them to break the lever after they pull it...

Eww... no. Especially since you can't recover mechanisms without destroying buildings and because some contraptions will be pretty much impossible to relink.
Not even building destroyers break levers.

What does THIS lever do?

This is a side-effect of dwarven animal training (hit animal with hammer until it forgets that it hates you, then lovingly cuddle it).

Same. Though dangerous loopy dwarves typically don't last more than a few moments in my forts. Still, +1 for the incoherent babbling nonetheless.

Maybe make them generate random jobs in general, using random materials and failing when those materials don't match the selected job. This way they'll eat up resources and block workshops.

I think berserk dwarves will pull levers if they happen to pass by (much like invaders) but they won't go out of their way to mess around with things.
