From something like version 0.40.0 to 0.40.13 cave adaptation was disabled so dwarves never get sick from being underground too long.

I was just wondering about this update when I saw it in updated topics.

You gave me false hope, Pencil.

(Not technically late, it's still Tuesday!)

Also the DFMA is updated to part 16: http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-12348-tuftedstockades

And with that I wish everyone happy holidays. I look forward to giving you all new updates sometime mid January.

If it's Tuesday SOMEWHERE, that's good enough for me!

More in truth I needed to move the fort to a stronger computer, but didn't do so until now (my laptop is a bit weak so I had known this would happen eventually). I was getting some moderate FPS drop that was making things take a while to play. I think the 2nd cavern level is to blame.

It is tuesday here too!

A wonderful update as always. I've never dealt with undead before, was the sworddwarf's death a lucky shot, or are the zombies really that devastating?

Yes to both really. It's a lucky shot in the sense that the dwarves are capable of dodging or blocking a large amount of the attacks. At the same time the undead have enough strength to tear through armor like it wasn't there so any hit the undead does land can be devastating.

On top of that the no Pain tag on the undead & their resilience means they're dangerous so long as they're still living (as the goblins in this update proved with 20+ pages of combat after knocking down the undead who never got back up).

And why did the Swordmaster not have a helmet?

I think for Uzol the problem was a lack of a place designated as a meeting hall. I had just been leaving the rooms defined, but not marked with a zone or meeting hall designation because it encourages the dwarves to spread out more. For all the normal dwarves that's fine because their burrow designations keep them in place. For the military though they don't care about burrows so they're free to wander. Uzol was most likely trying to head to the surface where the wagon once was or something like that. It's also possible there was some unforbidden item that he really wanted to pick up, but I periodically forbid everything on the surface layers so that shouldn't be the case.

The swordmaster had a bismuth bronze helmet on but the increased undead strength makes the armor largely ineffective.

Hey Slogo,

Had to register to thank you for this thread!
Great work!

Also, regarding the "Behind the screen" problems in Part 3 (I think it was part 3), there's a solution to it!
You can use the "Window Snip" function of the "Snipping tool" supplied with Windows 7 (someone might have already mentioned it). Just search for "Snip" in the start menu and it should come right up, then press the little arrow next to "New".

Way easier than having to cut a screenshot or select around the window.
