A pretty good amount. I haven't been running with FPS display on, but things have sped up a fair bit. It was at its slowest right before the demons and undead were connected by Bomrek and since then it's been a steady increase except for a small hiccup when all that miasma appeared.

I think ever since the procedural demons were added. It's just that you wouldn't usually see it, and if you're lucky, you'd only get single-gendered or genderless demons.

How do you micro Bomrek so that he digs the stairs, installs the hatch, and builds the walls? Do you use a tight burrow and assign only him to it with the requisite labors enabled?

He's the only one with the miner labor enabled for this part of the story. Once he started mining I locked him in and enabled the masonry labor for him as well as disabling hauling. At that point the only job for him to take after mining is constructing the wall and since the hatch is locked no one dwarves would take the job from him.

Only the cleansing properties of magma can resolve this three-way strugggle between dwarf, undead and abomination. You should totally build an entire shrine to the lever that controls the floodgates and surround it with guards and bridges.

I'm not really sure what to use magma for; demons don't seem too concerned about magma. The surface maybe... hmmm... but getting magma above an aquifer is going to be tricky.
