Underpants for dwarves?
« on: September 03, 2014, 08:31:26 am »

My dwarves like to take loincloths from dead goblins and wear them. Apart from the 'eww' factor, dwarven clothiers seem unable to make loincloths or, indeed, any other kind of undergarment for the groinal area. So my dwarves keep walking around with damaged goblin loincloths bunching up under their trousers and wafting 'eau de goblin' around the place.

If I stick something like

Code: [Select]
[ITEM_PANTS:ITEM_PANTS_UNDERPANTS]
[PREPLURAL:pairs of]
[NAME:underpants:underpants]
[LAYER:UNDER]
[COVERAGE:50]
[LAYER_SIZE:10]
[LAYER_PERMIT:30]
[MATERIAL_SIZE:1]
[SOFT]
[LEATHER]
[STRUCTURAL_ELASTICITY_WOVEN_THREAD]

in to item_pants.txt then I need something in one of the reaction files for the other half, right?

Anybody got a handy example of the reaction for trousers or something that I can modify? I'm pretty much a modding newbie.

No, just give the civilization permission to use it from entity_default.txt. The [SOFT] and [LEATHER] tokens put it in the workshop lists of clothiers and leatherworkers automatically.

Do remember that screwing with entities needs a world regen.

Damn. No use messing with the raw subfolder in saves then?

Not this time, no. Even new reactions need to be greenlighted for a civilization's use.

Do you have any kind of items_pants that you're not using at the moment? You can use the information for underpants, but retain the ID of the original clothing item.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Thanks for the info. However now that DF 40.11 is out, though, I'll be restarting anyway.

Not that it would've helped much, though - dwarven entities have only three kinds of crotch coverings available by default: armored leggings, heavy greaves and the ordinary pants.

Why would dwarves need underwear? They don't have genitals or butts.
