Dark Age has fallen upon the world of Dwarf Fortress...

Monsters flood the night. Nature is in revolt. The Orc and the Gnoll pillage the country sides. War and savagery abound. Terror and magic lurk beyond every shadow. The Hero and the Fortress have never been more important for survival...

Dark Ages IV: War & Mythos [47.04] [v39d] has been released.

Dev Status: Active. Still testing new content slowly. Even small changes can destabilize world generation.

    Devlog
    Spoiler (click to show/hide)

[5-8-20] [v39d] GM-X: v39d fixes several reported bugs and adds a new Mummy Curse.

    • Mummy Curse added
    • Fixed: Toy Factory no longer produces massively
    • Fixed: Should fix Dwarven Bows
    • Vampire Lords are now human size
    • Minor updates to curses

[3-16-20] [v39c] GM-X: Reintroduces all reactions and buildings for Dwarves. v39c adds Dirt and Gloom vampire strains which like most strains, are rare. Since 2013 I've added new weapons slowly but I'm happy with the new editions which round out combat styles a bit.

    • Dwarves and Legendary Dwarves now fully support Dark Ages reactions and buildings
    • Legendary Dwarves now correctly produce altars
    • [3] New weapons added which can be crafted in Fort Mode: Thora Spear, Casula Mace, & Xhylon Crossbow
    • [2] New vampire strains have arisen: Dirt and Gloom
    • Pre-Gen Advanced World Parameters included

[3-15-20] [v39b] GM-X: Fixes a few items and reintroduces heroic civilizations. v39b generates even more historic events. While 333-year old worlds are doable, they may push the limits of Legend Viewer if exported.

    • Paladins, Druid Dwarves, and Clerics have joined forces
    • Vampire Hydra have arisen
    • Iron Dwarf pets should correctly appear now
    • Fixed refit duplicate error in Adventure Mode
    • Pre-Gen Advanced World Parameters included

[3-13-20] [v39a] GM-X: I've continued to make subtle changes to increase stability and add new content. v39a is a small content update that also removes some creatures that were too active in world history for mysterious reasons. Also included two mods recommended by Fi.

    • Iron Dwarves have arisen
    • Dark Ages Dragons can now climb
    • Most Armor can now be refit in Adventure Mode
    • Vampire Bats are now extinct
    • Ancestral spirits no longer live underground
    • Great Bats are now extinct

[3-7-20] [v39] GM-X: Dark Ages IV is a refinement of DA:III and seems more stable and more diverse than ever. I will update and hot fix as needed, but legends were exploding with detail so there is fun to be had now. The dream of hyper active world history is very much alive again. In tests so far, there is less crashing and more towers in later years. Secrets are more elusive. Monsters are thriving and there is good balance between a very large number of powerful civilizations.

The villain update to DF has greatly expanded survival horror elements by default. Still more content is planned for DA:IV including a new monster tileset for the Steam release of DF. Once the Steam workshop is up and running.

    • 100% Vanilla content included
    • Stable medium & large advanced worlds
    • Hyper-active History
    • Towers in mass
    • Hags now reproduce
    • Hags joined forces with Gnolls
    • Serpentnakashim have fallen
    • Dark Stranglers have fallen
    • Dark Elf civilizations have risen
    • DAIV: adds 2MB of raw content to Vanilla for a total of 5.3MB

Note: Virtual Machine or Ram Disk recommended for best DF performance.

"Features announced for the unreleased “Dark Towers” version do not all appear in R1."

Is this being split into two parts?

Gonna hafta try this out later.

How does the magic work? What kind of crafting can adventurers perform? What does each race do? So many questions, so few answers. The website doesn't give us much to work with.

Thank you guys. We never got a chance to chat Deon, so looking forward to hearing your feedback. Meph, more of the Masterwork monsters were supposed to make it in, but time permitted only a few of the spookier ones for R1.

Is this being split into two parts?

If it was split into two parts, R1 contains all the best most diverse content. Changes that didn't make it into R1 were mostly changes to vanilla or somewhat redundant elements.

Gonna hafta try this out later.

I will add more content listing to the site and forum post soon. Eventually, the guidebook will go into the most depth.

I've not seen this happen before. Is this something I broke? I've not messed around with soil.

I might have caused it when i removed aquifers.

EDIT: Fresh Install fixed it.  Sorry for the false alarm.
