!!Science!!: Hunger and Thirst.
« on: September 13, 2014, 07:43:34 pm »

After One month, Zero weeks, and Two days of no food... You can't rest(or travel) because you are starving to death. ...Took long enough.  ::)

Went to a tomb to die... And walked right into a trap. Guess I should have stuck with the front room.

Only took Five days to get the same message regarding thirst.

Both experiments were preformed on Human peasant adventurers with across the board average stats.

Edit: On a side note, dehydration seems to slow you down more then starvation- .366 Vs ~.8

Never really tried that, but I'd imagine that would be effected as well.

In my fortress dwarves are dying from old age.

Never actually got the death announcement, but the test adventurers were on the verge of it.

I'm sorry, but I can't take your !!Science!! seriously if nobody actually died. I'm afraid we're going to have to revoke your grant if you can't do work that meets DRI (Dwarven Research Institute) standards.

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

That's actually pretty realistic, as far as how long it took to starve/dehydrate. As I recall from some wilderness-survival-highschool-demonstration-thing I attended a few years ago, the rule is "3 minutes without air, 3 hours without shelter (clothes, fire, place to sleep), 3 days without water, and 3 weeks without food.".

How long a dwarf survives without food depends on his fat. I deliberately make my adventurer corpulent so he doesn't have to carry that much food with him.
