You might as well plan it for 40.12, IMO. There aren't official releases for dfhack and Dwarf Therapist quite yet, but they probably aren't far behind and it should be possible to get someone to put together an unofficial version for download by participants.

I think it would be interesting to have a 'speed run' where each player has a maximum of 24 real time hours to play and submit their new save or lose their turn. :P

Yeah, but I'm currently using 40.10, and I also specified that it would be offered for versions above considering that many of the latest versions are only fixes.  Not sure how a 24-hour-turn would go, though, considering I myself do not have a whole lot of time each day, but if I have a good day to start and it gets enough support, then I am all for it.

Yeah, I know a lot of people won't have the time to do 24 hour turns. But, who knows? Maybe it will be more popular than I think it will. ;)

Suggestion duly noted. I'm also thinking of making the first item in a set to reach 10 approvals official.  Is there anything else you want to add?

Something I encountered in my "Caravans" game: If you gen the world in 40.10, but someone uses 40.11 or 40.12 to take a turn, 40.10 won't recognize the file as a saved game anymore.  (It just won't show up in the list of saved games unless you use 40.11 or 40.12)

Ah, I see. I guess I'll have to migrate versions then.  Updating topic name now.

I would like to jump in and play.  I am a newish player so i'll bet who ever follows me will be fixing my mistakes and mismanagement.

I'm all for advanced parameters.  high metal density, low-mid range number of volcano's,  medium or smaller island.   It would be nice if you find a semi flat embark with a volcano, sand and clay and some trees.  but this is all optional.
as far as names go, go with something funny but memorable.
which graphics pack do you plan to use?

if you would like to dwarf me... i would like to be the doc.  with all my skills in metal working/furnace operator

Okay, volcano is now on the list of available requirements for the embark location. (For the record, I'm keeping these things in mind and as we move forward, I'll put final stats on the OP)
And don't worry about being a newbie, either. I kind of am as well.

Please dear god use the phoebus graphic pack.

Also, flux is a must, and I wish to be the resident bonecarver.

I use the Pheobus graphic pack, and the PlantFix mod. (The latter is compatible with the former, and both will work with DF 0.40.13 ).

My dwarves also wear underpants.

entity_default.txt

find
[ENTITY:MOUNTAIN]
add line
   [PANTS:ITEM_PANTS_UNDERPANTS:COMMON]

item_pants.txt
find
[ITEM_PANTS:ITEM_PANTS_LOINCLOTH]
and add the following after that section.

[ITEM_PANTS:ITEM_PANTS_UNDERPANTS]
[PREPLURAL:pairs of]
[NAME:underpants:underpants]
[LAYER:UNDER]
[COVERAGE:50]
[LAYER_SIZE:10]
[LAYER_PERMIT:30]
[MATERIAL_SIZE:1]
[SOFT]
[LEATHER]
[STRUCTURAL_ELASTICITY_WOVEN_THREAD]

Haha, it may be undwarfy, but I do have my reasons for adding underpants. Dwarves have a habit of picking up stinky goblin loincloths and wearing them until they rot away. (Eww). Having new wholesome dwarven underpants available help stop that madness.

I see your sense in that, but I would honestly like to run an unmodified fort.  Would you like to be one of the seven dorfs or would you rather be random-generated?

I'm interested in taking turns running the fort, but I don't really feel the need to be Dorfed. If that's OK.

I like having the overseers be actual people in the fort, as many of the legends had. But if you really don't want to, I will not bother you about it.
